In this video I show how I clean my RC cars when I am finished running them. Its just a quick and easy way to clean them. Its not a super detailed cleaning. I don't have time for that and I dont really see a reason since I'll just go get them dirty afterwards.

This is how I clean my trucks but I put them in front a fan after blowing them off. This finishes drying them completely very quickly and prevents things like screw heads from rusting. Been doing it this way for over 10 years and it works great

@@V8chump yeah I've been doing it this way for years It works fantastic. I just set the RC up on end and put the fan right up against it. And then rotate the RC after about 10 minutes. In 20 minutes it's bone dry.

Great video, I use bike wash and a rag to clean my RCs, and when they are muddy, water as you did. Bike wash like muc-off is used on carbon fiber bikes, so no risk of damage to plastic or rubber, looks great in the end.

I guess some people may worry more than I do over this stuff, but the information you gave out on this was honestly more common sense to me. Again, some people may still want this information I would guess, but people who have been in the hobby for a little bit know what their RC is and isn't able to handle like water vs water pressure for example. For the other people that are learning I am sure this is all very good information though and for the bits and pieces that I watched it seems well done so there is that much going for you on this one.

You are spending more time cleaning your RC then driving it and having fun with it there's something wrong. I mean don't get me wrong I would love my X Maxx, My Maxx, My Fireteam, My Outcast, My Big Rock, My Kraton, My Typhon, My Infraction to ALL look NEW after every run, but I don't have nor do I want to spend more time cleaning them then I do having fun with them. If I had only One, then yeah I might be willing to spend more time cleaning them, but that's just not the case. I like to spend my time doing other Hobbies that I really enjoy. Everyone has their own way, but I do use water even if I've run them in snow, then I blow them off with compressed air, and set them under a fan blowing on them for a few hours. For me I don't bother with taping the holes, I'm just spraying them off, so water is not going to get in there as if you submerged them. I use very warm water to melt the snow off in my laundry room sink, then use the compressed air. then the fan. The fan really gets any residual water off the electronics.

I use degreaser myself, but my thought process is I'd rather have to regrease/reoil it rather than have grit in the bearings and moving components. That's just me though. There isn't many soaps out there that don't have degreaser solvents, even mild, but do exist. WD-40 before helps if you spray the moving components before spraying them with water.
@polishguywithhardtospellna8227
@polishguywithhardtospellna8227 7 ай бұрын
Wd40 melts rubber. At the minimum its a surface melt, but if left for longer it will eat into them more. That is probably very bad for glue edge of the tires and may be a reasonable why so many people tear tires into bits.

I have effectively the exact same routine as your wet one. If I’m out on a wet day and it’s full of mud and grass then I go for that. After drying I go through all balls, sockets, rods with PTFE lubricant which is fantastic and non-stick. Would be great if you can show people where you apply lubricant after a wet bashing session.
@outsourcedrc
@outsourcedrc 3 жыл бұрын
I dont. The bearings keep their grease in side them pretty well, And most lube will trap dirt inside open areas that rub together.
@momaaytah6269
@momaaytah6269 3 жыл бұрын
@@outsourcedrc I agree with lube trapping everything. I went through a few types but now unless something is definitely not exposed to the elements I would always use dry lube. By design it is not sticky, just creates a dry Teflon layer which strips easily relative to lube or grease so I apply it after every wet run usually or a few dry runs. Give it a shot, WD40 Dry PTFE or whatever they call it in the US. It is not the standard WD40 degreaser if you are wondering but proper dry lube.

Nice vid, thanks! Do you ever do any silicon spray (or other product) after washing to help remove water from screws and other metals that are not stainless to prevent rusting and that type of thing? Or, do you find that drying in front of the vent is enough to prevent rust? What product, if any, do you use on bearings around the wheels after a wash down like this? Thanks!
@outsourcedrc
@outsourcedrc 3 жыл бұрын
I dont use anything like that. I find that the grease in the bearings does a pretty good job of preventing water from getting past the seal. Normally I just replace a bearing if it needs work. Traxxas Bearings are really hard to rebuild.

I think you're spraying water in to the bearings with pressured water like that. Then when you blow pressured air on the water, you can also blast the water in to the bearings. I'd use the air pressure only if it's dry. If you need to use water then just pour it from a tap without that much pressure. Then you can use WD40 to push the water out of places it shouldn't be.

... rc cars are not water proof, they are water resistant. the bearings don't have marine grade grease, and water can get trapped in them and cause then to fail same with the hinge pin. you can force dirt and water in them shorting there life and destroying them

I cringe every time I see people spraying water into the car, doesn’t matter if you blow air afterwards water got into the bearings so unless you also spray them after these steps with silicone oil or something that takes care of your bearings I would stay away from water

No rc is waterproof! It's just a marketing tool. RC's are splash resistant not even proof.
