Ordered my A.R.E shell back in the beginning of Feb. right after receiving my new 2021 Silverado 2500 8ft bed, and I just received it earlier this week (over 20 week wait) was told several times that it was being built and and that it would be shipped. Original time frame I was told was 10-12 weeks. After that just plan on getting the runaround. I even offered to drive up to Ohio and pick it up when they told me it was a shipping issue, only to find out that it hadn't been built and that it was just another line of BS they were coming up with. On a good note only 2 of the 4 windows leak....I like the function of the vented windoors but they leak pretty bad. Not looking forward to taking it the dealer, I'm sure they will make up some crap. Paid $3350.00. I recommend going with Leer (I have one on my Ram) it's been on for 12 years and have had NO issues. If I hadn't spent so mush I would take it off and use it for target practice then burn it to the ground. (With the so called fiberglass shortage) you can tell that the shell is much more flimsy than the older style. Have a nice day

Great review. I have the same cap on order for my 2015 Nissan Frontier. I wish I had known about the option for the lift up side window because it would have convenient to grab stuff without having to craw up into the bed to get. I didn't have a back up camera so I purchased the Garmin Drivesmart 65 and Garmin BC 40 Wireless backup camera. It was easy to install and adjust the colored backup lines.

The shell looks nice on your Nissan. I'm planning to get the ARE MX series for my Titan XD soon. Did you have to special order it? If so, how long did it take? Thanks for the video, I can't seem to find much about how they would look on my truck.

It took a over a month . They are basically custom built to what ever specs you would like. I think it was built in PA. The false window on the top front of the cap looks nice with the windows tinted in the back of the truck. I wish it was a real window.

Thanks for the review. What's the approximate weight of the topper/cap ? How hard would it be for one person to put it on and take it off?
@smileyrichariho4 жыл бұрын
I don't know the exact weight. ARE wants you to have 4 people to take it off. The dealer might be able to tell the weight. Two of us weren't strong enough and it slid off the side of the truck. There are videos out their of people building rigs to remove it by yourself. Three of us were able to get it on, but again ARE wants you to have 4 people and not rest it on cross bars. It is not light

@@smileyrichariho Thank you ! Good to know. Just picked up a Frontier (my first truck) and I had no idea what the weight of toppers are. Didn't realize they'd be so heavy!
@smileyrichariho4 жыл бұрын
@@doctorcXanthophyll If you have two weight lifters they can probably do it... minimal I recommend is three... ARE says use 4. Two of us couldn't control it and it slide off the truck.

Thanks for the review. Any more leaks or diy fixes for that?
@smileyrichariho4 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed any more additional leaks. It kinda fell over when I took it off... so anything new around the window frame I'd blame on me for removing it without enough help.

I’ve seen other videos where this topper leaks too.

How do you like that cap so far. Planning to get the same one for my Tacoma?

I am glad I went with ARE over Leer. It looks great on the truck. With my truck and the window tint it is hard to see through it at night. Glad I have a back up camera. That is the biggest down side. Did also have the latch come off on the inside handle. The light screw came loose, and latch fell off. I put back in and tightened it down. Might have been the fact I lifted the cap to get a lawn mower in.

Im thinking of buying a 2017 nissan frontier crew cab pro4x instead of a 2015 nissan xterra the frontier is 3 grand more but half the mileage and it has a tonneul cover but i was looking at a ARE MX cap but with the man door on the back and the tilt /sliding front window and the same side window setup as yours but the cap would be smaller as a pro 4x has a 59.9 inch bed not the i think its 73.3 or 73.9 which should be what you have this video is great now I know what to possibly expect and I see what it actaully will look like except on the rear of course because i want the full man door lol

Does it come with fake sliding windows also?
@smileyrichariho4 жыл бұрын
They have multiple options. No windows on the side I believe is available. I believe they might have a solid window that opens. I doubt there is a fake sliding window. Check with one of their dealers or use there website to build one the way you want.

So the window on the front roof is fake?
@smileyrichariho4 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is unfortunately fake. Makes the cap look great, but it is just a dark piece fastened to the front.

Mambo thank you... it’s basically the reason on wanted this one! Now more to consider...

4are.com/product/mx/ Check the dealer tab for a dealer near you. They probably have updated pricing. I think your model is the wrong generation, they may not go back that far. You may have to look for them used on eBay and craigslist.

@@smileyrichariho FYI: In February 2021 A.R.E. custom-built an MX Series topper with full walk-in door and windoors for my 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 complete with all available options, accessories, and "horns-bells-&-whistles". The total tab was something north of $8,000 but well worth it, as I'll be living in the topper full time. I'm basically homeless but poured all my life savings into something that I felt like I could live in fairly comfortably (different strokes for different folks). My only point tho here was to mention that my truck is a 2002 and A.R.E. had no problem making me a topper for that generation truck.
