Music runs in his genes. Rahman did not randomly pick music as a career. His father, RK Shekhar, also had a keen interest in music and even composed songs in Tamil and Malayalam. Mani Ratnam was the first person to spot the talent in Rahman and got him to compose the music for his Tamil film Roja in 1992. He got a sum of Rs 25,000 for the project, and he became the recipient of the National Film Award along with huge success, popularity and admiration. Rahman is the first Asian to have won 2 Oscars in the same year for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. The Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri recipient has also won 4 National Awards....

@@arunbakt I’m from Tamil Nadu only. I grew up listening to Rahman. I collected all his CDs when I was young and was his biggest fan. Not anymore. The last great Rahman album was Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya in 2010. After that I’m not even able to remember a single tune. He has been surpassed in the South by Anirudh a long time ago, and his Hindi music doesn’t even sell films like they used to. Anyway, that’s my personal opinion. There was a time when I used to watch a movie only because it had a Rahman score. Those days are long gone.

Don't compare AR Rahman with Ilayaraja. In 1991 Karthik starred in the background score of the film Vanakkam Vathiyare by A. Dilip Kumar. R Rahman was doing it. For the songs of that film Music composed by PR Sampath Selvam. In an interview, the story writer of the film, Vairamuthu Vanakkam Vathiyare, told the background music of AR Raghuman, who was Dilip Kumar on that day. He said that he did it. Roja was released on 15th August 1992. Before that, the background score of the film Valanom Vathiyare released in 1991 was not as good as it was by A. Dilip Kumar. It was done by R Raghuman. In 1992, the film Roja was released in digital sound system. The music of AR Raghuman's Roja was also released in the same periodThere was a sarcastic and funny video on youtube reel that Hindi movie songs are not digital quality like Roja movie and it is old vintage bollywood style. AR Raghuman did the background music for Karthik's 1991 film Valanam Vathiyare, and even now I know what quality it was by watching that film on KZbin.can Raghuman brought a new sound to the extent that within one year a new sound is a different new style.
