A Ramble Through Rowan's History is a series of short videos of the history of Rowan County's people, places, and events. A Trip Along the Great Wagon Road segment describes the route taken by early immigrants from Pennsylvania to Rowan County. From Philadelphia through the Shenandoah Valley past Pilot Mountain on to Bethabara in Wachovia down to the Trading Ford at Salisbury, the road saw tens of thousands making their way to what was then the Western frontier. Immigrants in this early time were exemplified by two groups; Scots-Irish and German, the descendants of whom live among us today.
