While on autopilot, cruising at t 1,100KM/Hr ground speed and overflying the Atlantic Ocean at 40,000 ft above the sea level, the cockpit is just cool for a one on one interview. CHAMS Media's Alex Chamwada had a rare opportunity to interview Captain Eric Mbugua on KQ003 flight from New York to Nairobi on 31st October 2018 as Kenyans continued to celebrate the commencement of non-stop NBO-NYC flights. Just what normally happens in the cockpit? find out.

This interview is commendable. It is refreshing and informative and very inspirational. First it proves that we Kenyans can, and have by setting our minds and coursing the path to freedom. I recall years back Moi giving a speech in which he sounded elated with joy and pride that Kenya Airways airplanes were being flown entirely by Kenyan Pilots, both men and women! Freedom! That stayed in my mind till today when I watched this Interview. I am seeing what made Moi proud in this interview for I feel above the ground with elation and gratitude that we have the best in Kenya, make no mistake. Show it to our youths so they get it. What a teaching this Pilot did, in digestible details too! Asante, Thank you, et Merci beaucoup!

African men has always made great pilots even during time of war! I heard the story of the AA pilots Tuskegee Airmen, and I was very proud, but not only in the US even on the African soil I hear great things. Yay! Chamwada Media thank you for providing more black history to the Africans in the Diaspora! Our history can never be erased! We are brilliant!

Yaa Malima We have to continue to work, study and be men and women of integrity, competence, perseverance and ambition to be the best we can be in any occupation.I was very proud to learn of African and black pilots of competence and excellence in the past and the present. Unfortunately, we continue to be judged by the worst black and women.

Oh I DID enjoy that! I have been lucky enough to fly many times in my long life - mostly to and fro Africa (including Nairobi!)It was very different when I first flew back in 1958 to Ghana on a BOAC Stratocruiser - that flight set deal on both my love of flying AND my love of Africa. This was so interesting and the Captain so charming, informative and erudite. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Interesting that for the flight from NYC to NBO they flew 3:58 North towards Canada and then set cause again towards Southbound and the reason wanting to take advantage of the wind! And then the Captain also clearly shows the different flight path routing that they used to New York and then explains why they used a different flight path back to Nairobi because of the winds!

it's a shame that most wide body aircrafts with augmented crew, the First officers rarely do the takeoffs and landings, which means they will lack experience over time. but with narrow body aircrafts and non-augmented crew, the first officer has the chance to "fly"

1% wealthy who live in Africa can use something like that. It's a shame Africa 30 million square KM continent has the ability to become a group of powerful nations is so poor. The largest and most powerful nations need to unite and get rid of poverty, and educate everyone turn it into a industrial power house rival China. Africa needs to compete with other wealthy nations not become a welfare Continent to them.
