I'm into vintage classical, as well. I have a good knowledge of classical, having listened to it since I was a child in the 1960s and once managed the genre in a record store back in the 1990s. What's fun about looking for it in used record bins is that most people, especially young retail clerks, don't know what it is, don't know what it's worth, and don't care to look it up. Record stores just want to get rid of the classical for $2 to $10 or thereabouts. Previous owners of classical usually kept their records very clean and were careful not to scratch them. I've picked up some wonderful box sets for next to nothing, too, like operas and symphony cycles. Anyway, glad to see you back on KZbin and congrats on the dissertation!

I’m interested to hear your opinion about the Halffter I’m fairly sure it was not recorded by the Decca team but if it’s anything like SXL2091 Rodrigo/Falla which Argenta also recorded in Spain it could still be a stunner.

Hi 👋 I'm in my sixties, and it's true we do change as we grow older. I'm a gay man and have experienced hatred from straight people in my life. Verbal and physical abuse. I love Jazz, and I started getting into it in the 1980s. I saw Miles Davis in concert here in New Zealand back then. It was around the time of his Tutu album release. His back up band were funky. I like Bill Evans.and own a copy of the same record that you own. His music is very mellow. My favorite Jazz musician is Chet Baker. I like his trumpet playing and vocals. I never liked Classical music in the past, but recently i have been checking it out. Thanks for posting your video. From Carl.

One thing that I have been trying to figure out is how the record states on the bottom back of the sleeve that you can use stereo for playback. So… we’re they already using the stereo cutters to cut the mono records in 1960? If so a mono cart would not make a difference in my opinion. The reason I have a mono cart is to cut out the cross talk from the vertical plane on 50s mono recordings. I just wonder if it is still needed on that bill Evans. That’s a question I’d really like to ask Bernie G
@poetryonplastic Жыл бұрын
The mono cart will just cut out the vertical modulation, so it will cut down on the noise.
@rufus_the_cat Жыл бұрын
@@poetryonplastic i understand that. My point is, was this cut off of a stereo head, such that there is a vertical plane with the information for the 2nd channel. I guess we need to look at it with a microscope

I have a ton of Deccas, one thing that made their records so good is they used tube boards until the last 60s. In the early 90s I happened upon a sale in the basement of a church in NY, lots of opera Deccas at $1 per disc. The mono Capitol discs pressed in the 50s are undiscovered gold, Sinatra, Cole, etc. That's the quality you get when Johnny Mercer was in charge. I got an OG mono Everybody Digs Bill Evans for $2 recently, side one fantastic, side two awful sounding, What happened?
@poetryonplastic Жыл бұрын
Hmm, maybe a bad stamper on side two? Lots of variation when these records were pressed in high numbers.

With regard RATM I always found their sloganeering a little too simplistic and facile. While their music is very catchy it has never held my attention for an entire album. It just became too repetitive and one dimensional. Finally with regard a group/album that was able to synthesize both rap and rock successfully I would respectfully nominate “Angel Dust” by Faith No More.
