Glad to see you've discovered the joys of kayaking down our beautiful rivers of TN. I've been canoeing down some of the same rivers you've shown in your videos. I love to fish, but usually I'm in a group of other paddlers, we have to keep the group together for safety, so have little time to actually fish. But your comment about, "I've been fishing for about an hour, have only caught 1 fish, and I'm having a blast" caught my attention. That's the way I feel every time I paddle down a stretch of river, especially if it's a new stretch of river or the river is higher or lower than I usually paddle it. These rivers can vary a lot depending upon how much water is flowing through them. Always something new to discover.

Just hard to catch bass in the winter time - it's just the way it is. I agree, even in ponds, you can't see the bass. Aliens might take them for the winter and deliver them back in the spring? I fished twice two weekends ago, 3 hours one day, 2 hours two days later. Didn't see a fish or a minnow and didn't get one bit. Hard to catch bass/perch in the winter?!

Agreed. They’re definitely hard to catch in the winter. The only thing I’ve seen in the country pond I’ve been fishing in lately are turtles oddly enough. Even when it’s 37 degrees out there. 🤷🏻‍♂️

John, I really like the way you have your rear camera positioned. It makes it easy to see where you are throwing to. I appreciate that because often it seems {at least to me} that I can only tell the general direction most youtubers are casting. Great video

Experience was the main menu item of the day. Always love the WORD ! So glad you keep that feature for every vid. Alex was the perfect companion to have on your all's trip. Always be safe. Randy B.

I’m a little old man and it’s been a while since I’ve had my kayak out, but I found I like a single blade paddle. I do more steering than paddling. It’s just seems easier and dryer in the winter. Sorry the 3 pounder didn’t stay hooked up, but beautiful water.

In the winter your best bet for finding the fish you normally would expect to find there like the sunnies and coosa bass you should go to the deepest and stillest part of that river or even wherever it flows into because they’re gonna be looking for the warmest water and depth equals warmth the current part of it is that the fish are gonna try to use as little energy as possible and being in current uses some of that energy but if it’s deep and the fish have no choice or bad selection they can be in deep holes with current too

I usually go kayaking by myself so I usually just go upstream a couple of miles and float back down to my truck. I pick the holes apart so I can make that last 6 hours easy lol. That was a great looking creek/river and your right about not being able to catch them from the couch. 👊👍

Great adventure, watch out for those beavers. They do get rabbies. I saw a video where a guy got bit in the buttocks by a rabbid beaver. He had a pre-rabbies shot and didn't have to get multiple shots after he had been bitten. It kept charging and lunging at him on dry land. He called DNR or somebody and they told him to dispatch the beaver and take it in for examination...it had rabbies. So stay safe and have a Blessed Day!

For those commenters concerned about the dangers of cold water, yes, that is a real danger. But you can get a dry suit and paddle all through winter. For fishing, the toughest thing would probably be keeping your hands warm. Might could solve that by wearing fingerless neoprene gloves. I've paddled down to about 20°, where some of the slower pools were completely iced over. With a dry suit and one or two layers of polypro underwear, I was comfortable. Before dry suits, I would wear wool clothing and take an extra set of clothing in a dry bag/box in case I dumped. Winter/early spring is the best time to go paddling because the water levels are usually up and there's fewer people out on the water. Be cautious, not afraid!

My guess before we get into it is you will catch a few. But not a lot. EDIT, I jumped up a big beaver momma and her babies about 12 foot up a steep bank walking down an obscure side of a local lake that can't be gotten to with out the hike or a boat. I preferred walking down the side in the spring to pulll bass and crappie of the nest. That beaver must have been 100 lbs and scared the crap out of me and then the babies hopped up and followed her like train and hit that lake. What splash. Gotta watch those beavers though. they have been known to grab a hook. Happened to my buddy one day. He cut the line. He was scared to try to remove the hook from his jaw. I think I would have called wild life and asked them to send some one to get the hook out. Poor beaver, can't imagine the pain that critter went through for some time if not forever.
