Official English translations of YKK!? Oh my god, I need those! Also, surprised to hear Morgan Stang wrote a cozy bookshop fantasy. I had to dnf another one of their books last year because halfway through, ALL THE BAD THINGS happened. I'm usually not very sensitive to that, but this time it was like, whoa!

Oh my gosh, when I got done with The Bookshop and the Barbarian I went to see what else Stang had written and went....nooooope! I guess they just unexpectedly came out with a fluffy cozy novel but they're known for some pretty dark and intense stuff. Was NOT expecting that! If there's another story from the same world as Bookshop someday though, I'd jump on it.

I'm always so excited to see a video from you :) Would you be up for sharing your favorite natural/natural history books? I think I remember you read (and didn't talk about due to the strike) one or both of Steve Brusatte's prehistoric nature books. I'm just finishing those up and looking for more!! If you haven't read them - I don't see them on your goodreads shelves - I highly recommend Fish Don't Exist and The Feather Thief. Both very cool natural history pop books that have stuck with me for a while now!

Aww, thank you! I try, but sorry it's not been a dependable video schedule for a long time :-) I always get nervous about recommending books from a particular genre or niche because I worry I haven't read enough, but "favorites" or "memorable"? Perhaps! I have quite a few nature/natural history books (and rereads) lined up so I will keep that video idea in mind! (And yep, Fish Don't Exist and The Feather Thief are on the list.)

Yay for all the cozy fantasy! That has totally been my reading mood as well recently. Legends & Lattes is just sweet and fun, so I'm glad you enjoyed it too. It looks like my library has Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou on order, so I've put a hold on that! And I've put a hold on How to Keep House While Drowning too, since that sounds great. We figured out early on that it was for sure worth it for us to pay for professional cleaners once a month, and that has super helped (as has reducing stuff via the KonMari method), but I'm always up for a good self-help book on cleaning!

Oh, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou finally coming out in English officially!? Need to check if my library has ordered copies. :)

How do so many people know about YKK? Was it a popular anime at some point?

@@Kalanadi If it was I have not watched it. But the whole series was ahem...scanlated in the early oughts. ^^;;;

FYI, a small remark about pronunciation of Russian names. Like in most Slavic languages, the placement of the stress in Russian words including names is not discretional, though the correct placement is often unpredictable to a foreign ear. Since the main character in Pulley's novel is male, his name is stressed as ValEry, with the female version being ValEria. Otherwise, VAlery just sounds like the female English name. I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying all your recent reading, but I'm also looking forward to hear about more challenging, not necessarily cozy reads. :-) It was fun following your impressions of GEB, for instance.

I still haven't read Legend & Lattes so now I am probably the last person who hasn't read it. 🙂

I am the Guy who recommended Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou to you. I deleted my old YT Account and made a new one, thats why my Comment was deleted. I am glad you liked YKK since more of Ashinanos Works will be translated to English if more People will read these Kind of Manga. The good Thing about Ashinanos Manga is that he will let you think about most of the Things that happened to this World. Also a lot of his Manga are connected somehow. At least 2 of them are in the same Universe as YKK. Maybe the other Ashinano Manga will be translated too...let us hope :)

Thank you for recommending YKK! I was super interested when I saw his other works also incorporate a sci fi element. So I will keep an eye out for translations!

You grabbed my attention talking about Legends & Lattes by mentioning Pratchett. I've heard little about the plot and hearing you being so enthusiastic about it makes it extremely appealing. It was really good to have read Growing up Weightless together. I knew you'd do well with the Spanish Poirot Rachel. I've been curious to hear your thoughts about the Davis book since the liveshow and how happy you were speaking about it briefly then.

I really want to pick up a familiar book in Ukrainian as language practice but with how slowly I'm picking up the language it may have to be a book for babies...
@Kalanadi Жыл бұрын
That is exactly what I started with! And the local librarians didn't bat an eyelash when I checked out a stack of baby books, haha.
