I've been to Alaska twice, both in June 2017 and 19. In 2017 for the Midnight Sun baseball game in Fairbanks and 19 to finish what I started in 17; driving the Dalton Highway from end-to-end. I did complete the entire 500 miles in a few days with 24 hours sunlight. Even took a full body dip into the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay in 32 degrees with snow flurries. Rode the Alaska RR from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Away from the major cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks it is mostly wild country. The isolation from humanity is you're the only person around for hundreds of square miles. It's easier in the summer but the locals have the summer to prepare for the extreme winter of daily sub-zero cold temps for months. I want to re-visit in the dead of Winter for a drive to the Arctic Circle to view the Northern Lights. Btw, I live in NC.

this is a comment about the light, and how you said the lightness of night is how you know it’s summertime its funny to me because (first off i’m not from alaska, never been there, definitely on my bucket list of places to go though) i’m from california but one summer i went to utah and we went camping and i was lying outside and it was probably 10pm or so and it was so dark. i could see so many stars, more stars than i have ever seen in my life, there was even a meteor shower that night. but the darkness is what made it feel like summer to me. i remember even when we left the campsite and we were still in more light polluted places it was still so dark and it truly felt like summer to me.
