Sounds close to my day at a fintech company before covid19, I work for as a software developer. My manager doesn't micromanage at all, all he cares about if I'm hitting deadlines and doing my tasks. I rarely ever talk to him. I could show up early or later, I typically show up at 8:00 AM, but I could show up at 9:30 AM if I want. I can leave at just about any time I like, again so long as I'm getting my tasks done. I too can go out and walk, go to the store that is close by or whatever. Same as you, obviously I have to be there for meetings and what not. I too have had some days where I spent late working on a project, other times I don't have much to do and left early. I too also do code reviews, and of course QA testing. After covid19, like allot of companies, I work remotely, so working from home is nice. Same standards as before, get your tasks done. Nobody really cares what you do during the day so long as your tasks are done. As a courtesy if I have to be out sometime I will usually message my team on a team chat that is always open, but I don't necessarily have to do that.

@clem5 жыл бұрын
Yeah--basically, so long as the project you're working or the tasks you're handling are getting done. It's certainly not formulaic (i.e., it's not "if you don't get X done in Y time, you _must_ be slacking off), but overall, especially with Google's feedback-driven culture, it's pretty easy to assess whether someone's getting sh*t done or not.

Hello Clément, I don’t know any other way to direct message you this question so unfortunately I have resorted to posting this question in the comments in hopes that you see it. I am a third year computer science major at my university in Canada, transferred from a biological sciences major. Because I am a transfer I am behind on my computer sciences courses and I’m taking my algorithm course next semester. I’m wanting to apply to summer internships, but to pass some of the key word checks as well as show that by the time I take the internship I would have completed my algorithm course. Many companies, like google, end their acceptance for applications end of December for the summer internships, and thus I would not have began taking my algorithm course and I will just be wrapping up my current semester. My question is, how can I convey on my resume that I am taking an algorithm (as well a data base course) next semester, but will be completed before the internship begins? I feel like putting “in progress” would be miss leading as they may interpret that as in taking it in this current semester and will be finish the course in the end December. I love the informative videos and keep up the work dude!
