So a "fake" hero, a "corrupt" priest, a "cowardly" warrior, and a "disgraceful" mage saved the world.

Fern thinks incredibly highly of Stark. That's why she gets so upset with Frieren for thinking he'd like getting a potion that dissolves clothing. She also tries to prevent him from being corrupted at dinner by telling him not to worry about what that potion was and telling Frieren to put it away.

Love your Frieren reactions and how you pick up on all the details that make this a masterpiece, the art, the storytelling, the characters, the special moments they create... except near the end there at the climax of the episode when all you could think or talk about was Stoltz lol.

Fern learns see thru clothes spell. Checks out Stark. Calls Stark a perv. Checks out.
@adamwebster16665 ай бұрын
Fern uses a spell to see Stark nekked, mocks him for it. Fern sees Kraft working out, calls him a hentai. Fern sees Stark being strong and offering to help carry Frieren, calls him ecchi. Fern sees a potion to dissolve clothing, immediately pours it on Frieren. Seems to me every time Fern gets ... excited, she bonks someone else for it. Guilty conscience, methinks.

Since I first watched this episode I’ve always been worried about the hero sword. It will be pulled out ‘by the hero to drive off the great calamity bent on destroying the world’. That’s not to say that Himmel isn’t a hero who took down the the Demon King, but what if the great calamity is something different to the Demon King? Much worse, worse than the Demon King, and something Himmel wouldn’t have been able to defeat? Something we are yet to encounter? I wonder if the sword will reappear in the future when such a time occurs, and Stark is the hero to pull the sword
@lindsayroutliffe7 ай бұрын
I was actually wondering the same thing while I was editing! It felt kind of foreboding, and that the real calamity hasn’t happened yet. So interesting and kind of scary haha
@enavihz7 ай бұрын
I think Himmel was more than worthy of the Hero Sword, my guess is that he just didn't need it because he was HIM, so the sword is actually waiting for someone that will actually need it to face a great calamity.

Given the nature of this whole story, the themes it addresses, and how it purposefully subverts our expectations I don't think the Hero Sword and its prophecy actually matter that much. This show isn't keen on setting up classic future plot devices, so that our protagonist (and the audience) can prepare themselves for great battles to come or evils yet to defeat. It's moreso giving us personal, palpable and relatable life lessons; telling us to appreciate what we have now and what we can manage to achieve if we set our minds to it. It's all about the journey, not the destination - the small things that make up the whole matter most. To me the tale of the Hero's Sword is an example of romanticization of reality and truth. Sure, the weapon might contain immense power and value - the monsters stayed away from it after all - but it's as important (maybe even less so than) the people themselves, who decide to do something with their lives. Like how Himmel had the sword's replica but didn't need the real thing to be the real deal. He was as much a fake hero and not needed as the Hero's Sword is real and needed. We are taught that Himmel was a true hero who made his own luck and story. No special weapon or prophecy was necessary to be extraordinary and make a difference. In that sense, and like Frieren explains as well, over time people will change the truth to fit their needs/wants. Especially when it comes to tales of legendary heroes and world-altering calamities.
