Wow thank you for this video Haydon, I have been searching for a full duplex radio to do portable Satilights. I was searching for the Holy Grail of HT's the Kennwood th-72a but this looks like it will work just as well and have 4 bands too. I already ordered one and I will keep you posted on how it works for that.

I used to work sats many years ago. These days I'm lazy and use DV or Allstar. But, always worth remembering, you can just use two HTs...
@HAMFunko4pdi
@HAMFunko4pdi Жыл бұрын
I have tried but on Sats like the ISS the 3rd harmonic of the 2 meter is right ontop of the receive frequency. This causes a desenseatizing of the second radio and just muddles up the ability to get anything coming back which is the reason you have two radios. The transmit of the 2 meter side is 145.990. multiply that by 3 and what do you get? 437.9000 guess what the downlink is? 437.8000. See the problem? Thus a full duplex radio is a must so you can hear yourself coming back. I will try this radio and keep you posted on how it turns out.@@gordonpearce

I do see. Can't remember the FM birds I used to work. But didn't have these issues. Had QSOs with a mate Sydney to Melbourne out the back of the hotel while traveling for work using 2 HTs worked pretty well in the days before internet DV. All good fun. I'm interested to see how you go. I might buy one also. Anything USB-C charge and CHIRP / Linux programmable is great.

We have the same radio in pommy land called the KG-Q332 50mhz 144mhz 440mhz. It only has 3 power levels. They also do a KG-Q336 with 70mhz (4m) 144mhz 440mhz. Both radio don't have fcc or CE but have the UKCA approval. Think UKCA wont allow ultra power level. 73s G8GRL

Can this radio receive while transmitting? I'm thinking about using this radio for LEO Ham Sats on FM. the requirement is to be able to hear the downlink while transmitting on the uplink. The fact that this radio can do cross band repeat, makes me hopeful that this is possible.

Yes the AEA MX-6S was a hand held 6m rig back around early 2000s N6XQ [SK] worked JA and EY8CQ in Tajikistan with 6m handheld from Northern VK6 in early 2001. "" So I decided on the AEA DX-Handy 6 meter SSB/CW hand-held (no longer sold in the US) as my main rig. It puts out 1 W and the receiver is sensitive enough, but it has limited frequency cover The next opportunity to operate was from Exmouth (OG78) [North V6] on the northwest cape. Here, I stood on the second-story balcony of the motel and used a 1 /4-wave whip on the hand-held. I had my biggest pileup. The hand-held would not operate split, so I requested the JAs call by prefix. I worked 56 Japanese during the next half hour and then was called by a ??8CQ. I thought to myself, “This JA can’t send his prefix correctly or his transmitter is not initially keying right.” It then sunk in that this was not a JA, but rather EY8CQ in Tajikistan. What a thrill it was to work someplace I had no idea where it was, but knowing it was exotic DX."" @@HamRadioDX

I suspect you’re not talking about operating in the US as Advanced tickets haven’t existed for 20+ years (you can’t test to get one, people that have them are grandfathered) and the technician class (the first ticket you get) is allowed operation in the 6m band.

Bogus FCC ID number. If you take a look at the FCC database, it is for a different radio and only type accepted for Part 15. Yet again, a manufacturer trying to play the game without understanding the implications. This is a BAD HT
@theforcefield3534
@theforcefield3534 Жыл бұрын
If it's in the FCC database, it's a real FCC ID. According to the documentation in the FCC ID database, the FCC ID 2A6DTET003 is indeed for the KG-Q10H. Of course, you are correct, it is only type accepted for Part 15. Since it is an amateur radio, that is all it needs to be type accepted for. There is no requirement for a radio to be type accepted for Part 97. This is because the Amateur Radio Service is intended for experimental hobby radios, which means that hams can build and transmit on their own homemade radios without the need to submit them for testing and certification. And this is why hams are required to study and test to obtain a license. They need to prove they can competently design and build their own radios safely and without creating harmful interference. Hence, the Wouxun KG-Q10H is legal for use on the Amateur Radio Bands.
