The brass item you found at 2:50 min. is a reed for a portable pump field organ. Sometimes there is the keyboard note stamped in it, like "F#" for example. The organs folded up into a box shape an when unfolded it had 2 foot peddles to pump air across the reeds.
@orion299010 жыл бұрын
***** I had one for many years, I had to pull the reeds out to clean the dust collected in them which would keep them from working. here is a picture: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_organ#mediaviewer/File:4ft%2B8ftReeds.JPG I do think it's weird to find one in the field! BTW, I do enjoy your videos

Dan, I stumbled across your videos purely by accident and decided to watch on a whim. I'M HOOKED! I never in my life as a middle age black man thought I'd be so interested in watching a man in the UK metal detect. Can I suggest for future digs, bring a few bottles of water to rinse the dirt off your finds? It would be so exciting to see immediately what kind of coin or whatever else you have found instead of just guessing or waiting until the end of the video. Anyway, thanks for sharing your adventures with us!!!

Digger Dan ....you just got me in trouble. Shamey shamey! My wife wants to know why I have spent most of the day staring at my lap top screen. Couldn't help it what with you and Shallow Shoveller Shane wandering the countryside, digging holes, finding treasures of one degree or another, and keeping the cows entertained. You have convinced me that I need to go pick up a detector and ...."get in!" I live in the old wild west. Must be a fortune laying around out here, somewhere.

After your bit in Scotland, what about a world tour? Do some detecting in the states, some Caribbean islands maybe...
@ttchmp10 жыл бұрын
hahaha no i do not. If people can rally and support your adventure in scotland. I think anything is possible. There are detecting groups in North America that are rich. I think it would be very cool and great on them to have you share experiences and knowledge. Maybe with some networking it could be possible. I am interested to see if people gather and help you out in scotland. I think that will be a true test to see opertunity.

The Fatorinni marked object you found are the other half of the family who live in Skipton Castle. I was talking a few weeks ago to someone who's last name was Fatorini and I asked him if he was related (it being such an unusual last name and all) turns out that when the family moved here from italy (I think that's where he said they were from) there was a family fallout (as familys are wont to do) and half stayed in skipton (who then took over the castle) and the other half (his side of the family) moved to leeds where they set up a watchmaking and jewelry business. As far as I am aware from what I was told both halves of the family still don't talk to one another. So I think what you found there is from this family business. As for exactly WHAT it is, I haven't a clue, pretty sweet find though!

Chances are good you can fix up that hunting knife, Dan. Clean it up well...then throw it into a jug of penetrating oil or Automatic transmission (gearbox) fluid. Let it soak for a month at least. It won't remove a lot of rust, but you may be able to close the blade back into the handle. Those are usually about 50-60 USD in the states....Not old....you could buy a new one today.

Hi dan. I live in Baildon not far from keighley. I work for the water board and have been interested in metal detecting since finding the odd thing here and there while looking for water network assets in fields. Could you recommend a good all rounder detector? Also I am quite friendly with some of the farmers around the A65 area from Bradley up to Ingleton/Kirkby Lonsdale. I'm finding it quite difficult to find any information of where to start looking but my first find was by accident using my works cheap 'wasp' detector in a field near lawkland.
