A Refreshing Take on True Christian Modesty

Watching this from a woman's perspective, I feel like it's not as if we are taught to view our bodies as BAD persay, but as a physical incarnation of temptation that you have to carry around with you everywhere you go that you can, at best, muffle. Even if you're trying your best to not "cause another to stumble", it can cause a great deal of anxiety to over whether you're doing enough.

I think it’s quite obvious, if you are actively wearing clothes that show off Gods greatness on your very person, instead of covering what is holy. Then that is that. I think it is much like the phenomenon of d$&k pics, cover what is holy. Or risk showing it off and getting some very unwanted attention.

The challenge is that many men are exposed to pornography from a young age, leading to struggles with addiction due to its easy access. As brothers & sisters in Christ, it's important to support each other and help eachother avoid falling into sin. Your concern about doing enough shows that you genuinely care about the salvation of souls, and I truly appreciate that.

As a man with quite hairy legs I appreciate this video 😆 It also comes at a helpful timing since yesterday I saw a woman who was exposing her breasts too much and I first had the “ick” response. Perhaps I aught to examine my heart and pray for this poor woman who likely does not know her own dignity 🙏

Awesome video, Chris! I think many of us forget the various forms of modesty (i.e.: St. Francis de Sales’ urging for “interior modesty” and “modesty of speech”) and the necessary alignment with love that wills the good of others. It even begs the question: “If those hairy legs are “ick” what’re you implying about their Creator? I suspect this author would reflect and think twice lol 🙃

How important what you say. This video came just in time. Yesterday, and well, other days, i were struggling about why should one dress on one way or another or, in other words, in what kind of dressing resides modesty. Because you see, for example native americans considered to be modest just by wearing loincloth, but we "know" today that isn't a very modest clothe to wear. But does that mean that they had a more pure vision on the body? I'm not sure. Your answer brings me a strong and gracious argument. Thanks you!

Modesty is not a universal moral, it is inherently a relative social symbol It's not a virtue that one can practice, you can only try to one-up others in your circles. Actually putting modesty into universal practice would compel people to remove themselves from society altogether.

I mean, you got a point, but it's not that simple. Modesty is a Virtue for that for it we care for our body and protect it from the sinful eyes of others. This doesn't translate on dressing in some way, but rather have that attitude on protecting yourself. In that way you got a point. However, linked with modesty are the virtues of urbanism and elegancy. For instance, the virtue of urbanism is the virtue for which we act properly in the circunstances we are in. For example, if you are a noble and eat in a poor house, it wouldn't be proper to act refined but rather properly to the customs of that house. For the virtue of urbanism we can distiguish moments that are more casual or more formal (like it could be being at work or getting married) In other hand, the virtue of elegancy is that for which we dress not just modestly (caring for our body) and urbanly (this is, in a proper way) but also finding the beauty and perfection not only in the dressing but in the manners too.

Unless you remove yourself from society altogether then you have to accept some level of visibility. But the way that modesty is enforced is not based on individual preference for risk assessment, it's based on shaming those at the bottom of the hierarchy and maybe occasionally giving positive attention to those at the top. Yes, clothing is a form of self-expression and art, but that does not translate to any sort of standard, it actually dissolves most standards.

You're right, because modesty is not a real moral principle, it's a social hierarchy. In places where people are in full Burkas women are encouraged to speak less because hearing their voice is immodest.

Credit where it's due I suppose, he may be promoting modesty culture and he may have a sexist view of the human body but at least he is nominally opposing the idea that the body is evil(even as he promotes that idea elsewhere).
