It's testament to you as a human being that you mention viewers who get immense pleasure from your youtube posts. I count myself as one of those but I'm able to go out and photograph as I please. I get the emotional side too. You're a fine exponent of the wildlife photographers craft but probably more important a fine and caring person. Thank you for being just that.

I knew you were MY people when you said “ whoa, it’s great fun” and chuckled! Most of my friends don’t understand why I do what I do, getting up early and chasing wildlife. You can’t explain it to people who don’t get it. It is great fun…the best kind of fun!! Cheers to everyone who feels that feeling!

Totally agree some days are just hard work, or you have a great day, get home put images on the computer and they are just bad. The love of seeing nature and making it available for those that can’t get out is just awesome. Love the vlogs. Thank you.

Hi Paul, have to say thought this video was one of the best you’ve done since I’ve been subscribing, sometimes it’s just nice to sit and enjoy nature and just photograph what comes along. Also thought your point about people with struggles hopefully getting something out of your videos was just great and shows it’s not just about you. Hats off to you. 😀👍

I continue to appreciate the reality of your vlog. Showing the cropping does give us a much better idea of what your camera and lens really does. When we see the final crop without the starting photo, it can be pretty depressing. I mean why can't I get something like that? Oh wait, I can!

I usually come away with a new piece of knowledge or idea to try out too! That was a great spot you found there, by the way. Love your little seat - it's just what I need as am in almost constant pain when walking or standing. I called my hubby to have a look. Who knows.... perhaps Father Christmas will bring me one! 😊

The fact is, if it's a picture of a bird it is cropped. I use a 500mm f/4 lens and shoot from my blind at a distance that is just barely distant enough to allow the lens to focus.on the birds. Almost all of my songbird images are cropped. Yesterday I had a red-bellied woodpecker that filled the frame and I still had to crop off a bit of my 3:2 format for composition. Same with a bluejay. Cropping is just a fact of bird photography.

Ok, maybe this is a beginner question, but here goes. What is that hardware you “unlocked” to go vertical with the swan shot? I loosen the lens foot on the 100-500 slightly to do that, which makes me a bit nervous. I use a flex-shooter pro head.
@PaulMiguelPhotography
@PaulMiguelPhotography Ай бұрын
Yes, it's the lens collar that allows the lens to spin round. Same as your lens.

Great Video Paul pretty similar to what most of us do ( probably better shots though !) but there are a lot of people still using the EF 500mm lens with the mirrorless bodies is that an image quality or cost decision as RF big lenses at low aperture probably out of the reach of most people - thanks for the video
@PaulMiguelPhotography
@PaulMiguelPhotography 28 күн бұрын
Thank you. Yeah, it's mainly cost. A big RF lens would be a little better to use (certainly weight). But I have a real quality lens that works great with the mirrorless body. So I stick with it for now!

Hi Paul, thank you for another great video! I’m wondering what shutter mode you use on your R6 (electronic, mechanical or EFC)? I think I could hear the shutter when you were shooting, so I was thinking mechanical or EFC. I’m using an R7 and adapted EF 500 f4 and usually use electronic (H for 15 fps). Also, if your 500mm is a version 1, can you tell me what replacement foot you have attached? Cheers. -Mark in California
@PaulMiguelPhotography
@PaulMiguelPhotography Ай бұрын
Hi Mark. I'm using Electronic first curtain here, I often use it if I'm expecting action as it avoids rolling shutter.. and it's quieter than mechanical. I do use electroinc often though. Out of interest, can you tell me how you change that frame rate to 15 fps, in electronic, on the R7.. I couldn't figure it out when i borrowed one! Yes, the lens is version 1 and It's a Kirk lens foot.. been excelllent.
@amyandmark1999
@amyandmark1999 Ай бұрын
@@PaulMiguelPhotography thanks for the info on your usage of EFC vs Electronic, totally makes sense! As for the R7's frame rate: "H+" is 30fps and "H" is 15fps. To change frame rate, I hit the "Q" button and change it on that menu that pops up. I think shutter speed is on the left side of the screen, 3rd from the top. I seem to have better results with 15fps than I get with 30.
@amyandmark1999
@amyandmark1999 Ай бұрын
Just to add: with Mechanical and EFC shutter on the R7, the frame rates are significantly different than Electronic. For those two options, "H+" is 15fps and "H" is 7-8 fps. Kinda confusing for Canon to mix it up like that.
