Ulfhednir is a viking reenactment group with a main focus on fighting with replicas of viking weapons.
We attend both private and public events throughout the year in Denmark and abroad. Our way of fighting is, apart from the historical perspective, a sport for which we train weekly. There are many different rules of fighting within the viking community, and our way corresponds mostly to what is used in Europe and Scandinavia.
The videos we post here are targeted the fighters who attend our weekly trainings, and should be considered as a reminder of the techniques we teach. Thus the detail level of these techniques will be much greater in our training hall than on this channel.

Beautiful shield. It looks quite light, so maybe aim for Western fighting rules. It won't be strong enough for Eastern fighting style right ? What do you think?

It will be strong enough for eastern. I have a slightly less accurate shield from the same manufacturer and it can so I'm pretty sure this one also will :)

Such shields are of course not indestructible, and blunt weapons shatter shields more easily than sharp ones, which only produce cuts or nicks instead. However, plank shields with an authentic distal taper towards the edges, and laminated with hide are very resilient. On impact, they vibrate in a fashion that non-tapering shields do not, in particular if using split planks with central wood fibres running from edge to edge. However, like with any tools, preserving your weapons and shield mainly depends on how you use them.

It's an accurate replica. Shields like these were taken in to battle, against sharp weapons. Just remember to not attack the east in winter 🤪
