Those fixed camera angles were pretty commonplace in all the old survival horror games. Resident Evil may have done it first but silent Hill 2 did too so it's not like you were wrong.

my guess is this was a solution to a problem with the camera clipping the ceiling. notice how there aren’t really any interiors other than the gun stores in gta 3, and even those have fixed cameras now that I think about it

@@SeriousDragonify GTA III came out before VC and The Mansion doesn't have Fixed cameras, (I don't think apartment 3C from VC does either) some few places throughout the 3D Era GTA games have fixed camera in certain areas, and sometimes like in GTA SA previewing vehicle stunts/moves, a fixed or cutscene camera will show you what you should be aiming to achieve.

I'm pretty sure this was done this way because the camera would have clipped into the walls had it stayed the way it was. The original Halo was originally supposed to be 3rd person, but that's the issue they kept running into and change the entire game to 1st person to solve that issue
