The compass is guaranteed on the yeti king (and you can get spike shoes with the queen). As for the sun challenge, you can do it by going either on the top left or top right, killing the enemy there and bombing the spawner above. Then you can just sit on the spear trap, there's a safe tile. Leaving excalibur at waddler in the ice caves can help for the sun challenge, especially since corpses can be brought back to life by necromancers.

2 things you could've done in the sunken city to increase your odds: Sac Monty alive to get the royal jelly at the alter Hang out in the mothers statues arms (Where you asked is this a shortcut) for 10 seconds to get 4 free HP With that you might've had a shot at surviving it Super fun run regardless! Always a victory to even get to the sunken city with the bow in tow

Ryan, gambling at Madams in the Tide Pool is a great way to use gold for extra items. Even if the first item she has on offer is stinky she has up to 5 payouts for rolling a 7 so you're likely to get something good. Great run though! Edit: Giving Excalibur to wabler in the Ice Caves so you can use it on the sun challenge is very helpful to beat the challenge. Ty to Baer for this one

For the Spelunkers wanting to kill Quillback, you can jump over him while he's rolling then you can throw a bomb with the intent of landing at the end of his path. The damage from the bomb won't trigger another roll and he will be blown up by it with no need for a Paste or cooking it.

NL, passing the floor where you get 4 free items if you do the challenge and also kill the lake fish: I could really use a compass I know it's not necessary or anything, but killing the fish in the lake gives you a present, and the challenge gives you 3 copies of an item, which can either be good monty HP, or 4 total presents which will then have different items inside them. It's one of the biggest advantages the game offers up in the late game and NL's literally never done it, I think?

@northernlion I bet this tip will go unheard but if you run and throw a rock it will knock all hard to reach gems without the use of ropes. This works for Monty as well obviously. Post script; If you do not dash while you throw you risk loosing your rock and money upon the high precipice.

I don't think NL understands the meaning behind "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know." at all. The "devil you know" is supposed to represent that being cognizant of a potential danger is better because you know where and how to avoid it. The "devil you don't know" represents the danger that you can never expect, it's always present and you don't have a way to prepare for it. An example of the former being going for a walk alone at night. The danger is there, but you know about it and can prepare. An example of the latter being something like a heart attack. The danger is there, and you can't ever foresee when it'll happen.
