Those are nice and the price isn't bad either. My only gripe would be the MDF. It's not the most durable of the processed woods. It can be damaged easily and isn't too fond of moisture. It's still an exceptional accessory for an exceptional game.

It is an overhyped ressource collecting game.
@arenkai7 жыл бұрын
It's a simple ressource gathering board game. You throw dice and the number you get decides what tiles produce resources. Minimal strategy needed, maximum fun for all the family. I play with my parents who have 0 knowledge in games whatsoever and they have a blast ! It's far from the best board game out there but it's really good at what it does.
@firekram7 жыл бұрын
There are deeper experiences to be had in the expansions
@GeorgiosD907 жыл бұрын
deeper in your pocket, you mean right?
@firekram7 жыл бұрын
What I mean is that the expansions do have more for the hard core players, who were already going to spend 80 bucks on a board game, you can get the base and (cities and knights) and enough should be going on that for you to enjoy. (without leaving your casual friends behind)
@thecrazycapn6 жыл бұрын

CATAN is the only game I could get my parents into. Do you have better ones I could play with them when I get back home for the holidays ? They aren't fond of strategy games, so CATAN was a perfect fit.
@LowGuppy7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's better than Monopoly but not much else. It deserves credit for starting the board game boom, but it's already been left behind by so many better games. I saw a list of 10 "don'ts" for board game design and it does like 4 or 5 of them.
@endgame7 жыл бұрын
Try any of the ones I suggested on my post.. they aren't so strategy filled and are fun.

"The only downside to this is that it isn't free." Not really, there's no effective way to randomize the 3D tiles, so you still need to use the original tiles for that, which also adds time to set-up.

these seem like a labor of love
@laurencebrown38227 жыл бұрын
If I had known about these a few years ago when me and my friends played this weekly, I'd have probably proposed that we all pitch in to get a set. The heavy usage has really scuffed the tiles we have, and the borders need objects placed on them to not only prevent sliding around from an accidental bump, but also from some slight warping. Paying upwards of $400 would be prohibitive to us singly, but bringing that down to $60 or so per person who regularly plays seems like a wise investment if the game is a regular fixture for the group.
@gemofmagic94367 жыл бұрын

I would really appreciate more board game reviews. Maybe a video on smaller card games like Lost Legacy and Love Letter would be appreciated by the MtG community as well, as they are cheaper to always carry with you than the average Standard or Modern deck. Not sure if it's available in the US but there is a great travel version for Love Letter, great when you want to kill a few minutes. That said, the Catan Travel version is quite the sight to behold and perfect for sunny days in the park.

As a MTG casual player i mostly look for stand alone card games that can provide fun with friends without needing everyone to buy their own decks. I really recommend you try and review the games made by White Wizard Studios. Star Realms, Hero Realms, and specially, their own take on drafting fantasy: Epic Card Game. All ready to play sets are on 20$ with expansions to the base games. Among those (since i love Sci Fi and deck building) Star Realms is my favorite, and the digital Version is great too. Available for download on android os Ios devices for free with a price only for multiplayer and the same rules as the physical game.

I suppose it's possible... or rather, quite likely, that I've just had spectacularly bad luck with this game, but personally whenever I've tried to play it, I just end up frustrated. Usually for the simple reason that *literally nobody* on the board has any of a specific resource I need. I distinctly remember a game where for turn after turn after turn after turn, nobody ever got any wood. And then when someone finally did get some... the very next turn a 7 was rolled. And then since so many turns had gone by without anyone getting that extremely vital resource, naturally everyone was sitting there with way too many resources on their hand... and said wood was promptly lost before anyone got a chance to use it. Is this in any way relevant to the product? No, I guess not, the product itself looks excellent for what it is... I just for some reason felt compelled to whine about something that happened years ago.
