Very nice review. I've been using the Zulu 30 for a day pack/ski pack for a couple of years and the ULA-Equipment Catalyst for 2 to 4 night 3 season hikes. I want the Zulu 40 for carrying more camera bulk for a day, and for the back entry zipper which neither the Zulu 30 nor the Catalyst have.

You're very welcome. I've never used an ULA before, but would love to give one a try someday. This Zulu 40 has been my go-to pack. As a matter of fact, I'm using it tonight. Dane

Jan Klaeui Thank you Jan. I think it's better to do a review AFTER you use a product.

10 days in a 40L- wow! Ever consider ULA backpacks? They have an orange option as well. That Gregory is a nice looking pack though! And if it’s comfortable- that’s all you can ask for. There are a lot of nice packs out there for sure.. I started out with an osprey 60L- then wanted something lighter and went with the ULA Ohm.. and for very light trips where I’m trying to be ULTRA light- I bought a Z-Packs Nero which is 38L and around 11oz. As always- great vid Dane! 4 more days and I’ll experience the LHHT for the first time rain or shine. Watching your and Rob’s (BA) have got me inspired..

stowe18 Thanks Ryan for coming back to watch again, and for commenting. I was also surprised to get everything in the pack! Hopefully that means being more efficient. I'm sure you're getting excited for your trip! The weather has been hot lately. I hope that doesn't make it miserable for you. Dane

Really nice review, Dane. I liked the cut to close up views and slow zoom-ins....they added that "little something" that makes the video more polished.

Thanks, Brian. Actually, I had set up a second camera, which failed. Therefore, I had only one angle to work with so I used the cut and zoom to mix it up. I appreciate that you caught that! Dane

Nice review! I have an Osprey Atmos 65 (in burnt orange!) that is awesome but probably more than I need, and the Zulu 40 is on my list. The lack of sleeping pad straps bugs me a bit but otherwise it sounds like a great bag. Thanks Dane!

Thanks, Jeffrey. I agree with you; the lack of bottom straps is a bit disappointing. I haven't worked on it yet, but I'm guessing there may be a way to DIY a strap. This has definitely become my go-to backpack. Dane

@@Featheredprop Looking at photos of it, there are some loops down the bottom. I could easily see rigging bungee, velcro or guy lines to attach a pad. An added benefit is that you then repurpose the straps once camp is set up.

Does anyone know the length of the metal frame within the back pack in the Large (as appose to the packed length)? I am trying to determine whether i can pack this into an overhead.

I just measured my large pack. The FRAME is 24". I hope this helps. Dane

I never checked in my Zulu 40. The size is just right to store it in the overhead compartment vertically.

stowe18 I would suggest going to Tailgatez. It's a sports bar/restaurant. Good food, good amtosphere.
