This is a review of the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens. This lens is considered a kit lens, since it's included in with the Nikon Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras. If you're wary of anything called a kit lens, don't be, because this is a terrific little lens! Reliable, light and compact, with great image quality to boot.
Thanks for watching, cheers!

I just entered the Nikon Z system, and opted to get the 24-70 kit with the Z 6ii. I’m very pleased so far, and I’m a long-time Nikon DSLR/SLR user.

Me too, got the z6 lasy week, and just won a 24-70 f4 on ebay. Can't wait to have a native lens on the z6 which is a beast! Upgraded from a D200😎😎😎

Same here, I moved from a D7500 with a collection of F mount lenses to a Z6 II, and this lens is just fantastic for street photography. It does everything from architecture to portraits, and it does it amazingly well for the price. I still keep my old 50mm f1.8 with the FTZ adapter for low light, indoors or non street portrait though. And I'm still using my D7500 for sport/wildlife photography, along with the Tamron 150-600 télé. The "mini D500" with the optical finder is just better for now.

This lens keeps surprising me. I settled with the F4 on price and that I would mainly use it for video. The lens is sharp while maintaining a soft background and of course the versatility of 24-70 focal length. I found that the focus distance is great for doing tight detail shots. Still I think about trading up to the 2.8 model for more light - just not crazy about the price or weight especially on a gimbal. Speaking of which, I always forget to unlock my lens when mounting it to the gimbal - completely throwing off my balance.

I keep loving it the more and more I use it. And you're right about the unlocking/gimbal balancing - I've been caught out before... Can't stand it! Lucky the rest of the len's qualities make up for it!

The f/2.8 is a completely different beast of a lens. It's not only faster, it's also a lot sharper and delivers more contrast. It's even sharper wide open than some of the z primes (not the 50mm and the 85mm though).

I love this lens. Its amazing for the price. It has great colour reproduction, not prime like but very close. This is the perfect video lens for run and gun video stuff. I mostly shoot with primes and was extremely vary of buying this lens but the price point at which i was getting this was very lucrative! And i am glab that I bought the kit. I dont mind the lock thing, yes f2.8 would have been better but then it would have been too expensive.

Yes! It's fantastic! I'm sure the f2.8 is great as well, but the price and weight put me off

You shouldn't worry about pumping the ISO on full frame. f/4 on full frame is the same as f/2 on micro 4/3 in terms of total light gathered, which is what sets the noise level.

I just purchased this lens with the Nikon Z6 II and a few other accessories including a F to Z mount adapter for my wife's birthday next month. With the added goodies they came to about 5K USD. After seeing some of the reviews, I was starting to panic, as she has cherished, and held tightly to her D3300 and assortment of lenses. I was beginning to think she would hate it, and I bombed again. Thank you for allowing me to rest, and breath easy.

I understand your comments about the lens locking function, but I kind of wish that my 24-120 had that option as the lens will extend when pointing down.

I’m surprised that it doesn’t have a lock for a heavy lens like hat. Even the 24-200 Z lens has a lock

How do you feel it about it for travel compared to the 12-40 2.8 olympus? Cheers
@Blinsaff
@Blinsaff 3 жыл бұрын
Both are great, but the 12-40 is lighter and is f2.8 - which makes it awesome for travel. But the micro four thirds system kinda lets it down. Can't lose with either lens, to be honest

Yea it's a terrific lens for f4. For anything related to portraiture or video it's garbage. ( Studio shots excluded )

People always find a way to BITCH and complain about something. Don’t like F4? Spend the money on the 2.8. Then you people will bitch about the price for that.
