That’s cool! I think around a few days ago now, so the 25 or 26th October I was going for a little e scooter ride. I was in Denham court going down rover street when I heard this dreaded sound. I didn’t even see it at first but it was nesting on the grassy part of the sidewalk! It had three baby lapwings and one egg! I came two days later and all that remained was the remnants of the distinct green shell and the abandoned nest! These birds are quite fascinating! Can’t wait to see em around next year in breeding season!

Love them, my favorite bird. I try to help them look after their babies every year (spotlighting foxes etc) but 75% (6 out of 8) so far have been killed by foxes, myna birds and ravens.
@BlinsaffАй бұрын
@@rickyn4710 that awesome, love the dedication! The babies in this video didn’t survive, most were taken by house cats..
@rickyn4710Ай бұрын
@@Blinsaffyeah I saw in another comment you said they didn't survive. Very sad. Many plovers never breed successfully, so imagine if they didn't try to defend their young so vigorously, they would be extinct. Luckily Iive next to a nature reserve so cats are not allowed here. Still, the native ravens and the imported pests like Indian mynas and foxes are enough to kill most of them. Just to stop the foxes some times I'm up 2-3 times every night spotlighting them, which is anywhere from 11pm to 5am. Not great for work but such is my love for these amazing parents.

@@Blinsaffthat is so sad. 😢 Many plovers never breed successfully so imagine if they weren't so protective, they would go extinct. Luckily I live next to a nature reserve so cats aren't allowed. But there are enough risks anyways. I'm often up 2-3 times a night in breeding season to spotlight foxes, which isn't ideal for work but such is my admiration for these amazing parents. There are another pair of plovers down the road and unfortunately a fox got one of the parents while the other was incubating eggs. Thank God somehow that single parent had another single plover come and help it! They are still incubating now but they don't have much chance as they live right next to where the foxes eat all their prey.
@BlinsaffАй бұрын
@@rickyn4710 is there any way to set traps? (Humanly of course). Plovers will always find a way to survive though. They’re an extremely hardy bird. I’ve seen a pair nest on a roundabout next to a freeway off ramp! I hope your plovers make it through the breeding season 🙂
@rickyn4710Ай бұрын
@@Blinsaffunfortunately not. I've asked the local government and they said they don't actively trap foxes and I can't unless I have a commercial license. The plovers at the front of my house have already had their kids taken this spring. The single parent up the road (deep in fox territory) and it's helper are the only hope for the ones around here now.

Dear friend, you are not giving good advises for good flashes in macro photography! Theese flashes are good for single photo, not for stacking or bracketing flash phostos because recharging time is too late. For theese you have to use Godox V350 or 800 III or V1. Good advises only about Cygnustech, not others. Conclusion: the best flash you can buy now is Godox V350. It costs about $ 160 and it has a rechargeable battery. It's very very fast to recharge itsel for sequences of shots, till about 50 in 0 seconds and is not too big!

I’ve been photographing two bald eagles that have been fishing in an urban park and lake near where I live for the last week. I’ve been using the S5 with the 70 to 200 F4 Lumix lens. I’ve actually got some good shots because the eagles have been surprisingly close when they dive down on the lake to catch a fish. But since I’m not totally satisfied, I have rented a Sigma 150-600 DGDNOS lens and I’m gonna give it a whirl next week. I will try your settings for auto focus and see how it works out.

Just an update as I found this video the most helpfull on the S5. The settings are the key, accepting the AF is not the best. I use a 100-400 with a 1.4 teleconverter, probably not as good as the 150-600, but I have versaility as I use another lens as well for travel. I will probably end up buying the sports lens in due course and I havnt even started on the video. Settings, setting is the only way. I have lots of shots but only odd ones are worth keeping. And when they are good they are good!. My faith is restored.
@BlinsaffАй бұрын
@@philclint good hear. When the stars align and those images are in focus the quality of the S5 never failed to disappoint me
@philclint9 күн бұрын
@@Blinsaff by the way the best I can get with a teleconverter is f9 and that means you need good light. SO I'm not convinced that its the best way. Its just the 600mm is heavy and that might put me off carting it around and might not get the use of it. We'll see...

Hello ! Just saw your video on the z8 for macro. Perhaps you might be able to help me with the following. Is there any way to use focus shift with flash. There’s no issue with the flash recycle time as I can shoot on continuous low with the flash keeping up no problem. I just can’t get it to work on focus shift. There is some discussion online but nobody seems to have a solution !
@Blinsaff2 ай бұрын
Well, I'm not that big of an expert on focus stacking (since I don't use it that often), but I just did a test with my Godox and Nikon speedlights. Both worked, but I had to set the interval to 1 second. On 0 seconds the flash didn't fire. Kind of defeats the purpose of it at 1 second interval, especially when shooting insects to be honest. I think this may be a firmware update fix, unfortunately :(

Its funny how the poor Magpie gets ignored for most of the year, then the media harp on about minor swooping incidents. I'm quite sure that the birds know me across several locations and although I have protected kids that were being swooped, I have not once been swooped by one anywhere. My black and white Cocker Spaniel copped a bit, but my black ones have not. They are a lovely and intelligent bird that I love to interact with. They are even smart enough to avoid conflict with Wattle Birds, unlike many others.
