D832 Onslaught We take a ride with the old girl. Starting at Bolton street and on to Rawtenstall. We enjoy some big beefy thrash in the tunnels after Summerseat. The Ski jump never fails to provide some thrash.
We take a ride in the cab from Heywood to Bolton street thanks to Driver Carl Holt and second man Mike Marran enjoy.

Great video, D832 has thrashed up and down ELR for over 30 years, still looks as good. BR were wrong to scrap these Class 42 when they had so much life ahead of them.

A few years ago I was lucky to buy the power handle, reverser handle, and key from the now extinct 833 panther warship loco. I've always loved the warships.

The hydraulic claw would have to be approved by whatever government the warship is under, but that would be super cool if it happened!!

There are only two Warships left in preservation so mutilating the roof of one of them to add a pointless claw would cause much uproar. Also it would be a huge waste of money.

No point. They never carried them in BR service and would serve as nothing but a dangerous nuisance that would make them more likely to foul bridges and tight clearances, and make it harder for people to work on the roof when they are undergoing overhaul. Not to mention if for any reason it needed an engine lift

I was a fireman at old oak at the time in 1963/64 I was working in the spare link snd could be sent anywhere when I booked on there was a driver there was a driver standing in the booking on office he looked at me and said are you alright for a double trip yes I say so we make our way out in to the shed and stopped at the top passenger turntable where there was a bright shiny D800 so we climbed on to the I found the hand brush and had a sweep round I did feel bit curious and excited as I had never been on these new diesel hydraulics very especially the D800s so we travel light engine to Paddington platform 1 I jumped down and couple up and within it is train time and we slowly start to move away next stop Plymouth having just watched this film with interest is there was no role in cab well let me tell you this at 90 mph the locomotive rocks and rolls the driver has plenty of things to hold onto like the controls ect but the man in the left-hand whether you call him the fireman or second man there is no armrest and the nearest I can describe it is like riding a raging there is nothing to hang on to when we eventually arrived the outside of my right-hand leg had quite a few bruises but as luck had it well we had come off the to go onto Lara shed because there was an engine change. So we booked on the next day went through the same performance sweeping down my driver has been away for quite a few minutes and I wondered where he had gone then I heard two voices in the engine room he eventually come back into the cab grab your traps son he said this is a failure so we walked back over to the running foreman window I stood there whilst a driver talk to the foreman we've got to take the pilot so we walked to wear the station pilot was stabled a lovely clean castle I jumped onto the checked the gauge and the opened the and had a rake around with the long pricker to see if I could latch onto any clinker N2 open the fire bed up everything seemed in so I then started my duties of building up a fire by the time our train I had a lovely bright fire we had a really good trip back picked up assisting loco at Newton abbot to get us over the Somerset flats next stop Paddington

Hello nablicman Only just found your channel. I'm really impressed with the quality of you camera work and sound. It's pretty damn difficult keeping a camera level and steady hanging out of a Mk1 window. Are you using a gimbal or steadicam of some kind to support the camera? Or is it just the image stabilisation built into the camera? What camera do you use? Also, are you using some kind of wind muffler? There is some wind noise, but you've managed to keep it to a minimum. I like your editing too - you keep individual takes down to a reasonable length and you 'cut-away' to details other than the loco. Very professional. I've been filming trains for 30 years or so and I can see the technical problems you've managed to overcome. Really nice work, well done! Andy.

Thanks for your comments much appreciated I also have bin filming for around the same time al lsorts of subject matter but railways are my passion. The camera is a Sony HXR NX5 with a rycoat muffler on the stereo microphone and theres no gimbal or image stableing its just me wedged in the window & a lot of experience in filming out of carage windows.😊
