Seeing as you appeared to not be familiar with the tracks you were probably right to go with automatic although honestly it's much nicer to gear drift with the manual car. Generally you want to shift down, skipping a gear, as you start turning to initiate a drift then do the opposite to end it - so 4-2-4 at the end of the beginner track. The advantage being that you have the option to go through all the gears on the corner exit which is a little slower but gives you a lot more control. - in other words 4-2-3-4. Being able to directly jump to specific gears using the face buttons in this port is very helpful for this, I wouldn't use the shoulder buttons. As someone already mentioned there are certain corners, i.e. the end of the second track, where you really need to brake before drifting. Do a few longer races to get familiar with those aspects and you'll be beating the game on the hardest setting in no time I reckon.

Thank you, you are the first person that has actually explained the manual gear change for corners in a decent amount of detail. The information is probably out there but isn't like in your face. I'll try it out, yes I'm one of those guys who played this in the arcades decades ago with friends here and there but never anything remotely serious and even then it was strictly the oval track like 90% of arcade goers. Thanks for watching the video 👍🏽

@@Unikronn Same here really, I didn't properly get the hang of it until the 2012 port came out haha. Pretty much everyone just played the beginner track, makes sense when a pound only nets you two minutes of gameplay and you can't practise it at home.

That's the thing, I always liked to buy a home "port" or "version" of an arcade game I liked, if it was good you could apply your home skills back at the arcade even if you didn't have the same input control method (joy pad to arcade stick or D-pad to steering wheel). I remember proudly after a few months of diligent practice when I took my Ridge Racer Revolution (NTSC PS1 unlocking devil & angel cars) skills and applied them to Ridge Racer 2 (arcade), I was so happy because I had an extra £2 in my pocket because I finished Ridge Racer 2 with only two attempts on the longer course so I treated myself to a chicken & chips plus a coke from some random no name chicken shop (Dixy fried chicken 🤷🏽♂️?)...good times 😁

It's actually better o a 1-3-4 since it allows to take the corner sharper

I played the 2 player sit down arcade of Daytona at Arcade Club a while back and it definitely felt less smooth than RR to me. That attract mode though, oooooff.

I agree, it for sure is a product of it's time, I also feel that the sequel still handles better even by today's standards & it's just a shame that officially it's locked behind a Yakuza game and not stand-alone.

Daytona is better then ridge racer. Im old ridge racer Fan and have mostly If then,but in Daytona USA vs ridge racer,IT s more technic. The drifting in Daytona ist nice.

I'm in the opposite camp but my reasoning is that for all the old school tracks from the Ridge family (RR1-5, Rage Racer and Rave Racer), they're best played (officially) on PS4/5 via the PSP Ridge Racer 2 and that compilation plays much better than any version of Daytona USA imo. What I would like is for Sega to officially release Daytona 2 in some sort of compilation or stand-alone instead of it being locked inside of one of those Yakuza games (I think it's "Like a Dragon"?). I just prefer the drifting & general car control in the Ridge family of games, thanks for watching and sharing your opinion in comments 👍🏽

@Unikronn I used to only play Ridge Racer. Right from the beginning. Japanese Playstation. I was looking for Ridge Racer. But drifting is very easy in Ridge Racer. It's more difficult at Daytona. But if you can do it, you can master the technique It's better than Ridge Racer. But you have to learn the technique. Try it if you can. Yes, Daytona 2. I bought Dragon Gaiden specifically. It's a shame that it's not sold alone.

@GamingGamesandmore tbh Sega really do need to release most if not all of their arcade racing game catalogue, I think it's about time we are able to purchase those games for our preferred home formats in some form.

@GamingGamesandmore same here but I'd like them to give us games like Scud Racer with extra's that you'd normally get with the old school ports not just what's in the arcade version. I'd like them to go all out with multiplayer online (cross play), extra tracks & courses, give us a remix mode where we can take the sega rally cars or the scud Racer cars on the Daytona USA circuits. I just want Sega to actually acknowledge their arcade racing heritage and celebrate it with us the fans with updated content.

What version of RR is playing at the start? It looks like a remake of the original to me, is that the PSP version?
@Unikronn11 күн бұрын
It's Ridge Racer 2 from the PSP but the PS5 version (also available on the PS4). This particular version has all the track circuits from every Ridge Racer/Rave Racer/Rage Racer up to the PS360 era. The only difference is you can't drop off the track in the Race Racer course like in the arcade.

You can't approach Daytona USA like you do Ridge Racer. In Ridge Racer there are cars that can literally drift through most of the track without slowing down (mastering the mechanic being essential against that mysterious black car that shows up). You can only do that on the first track in Daytona. Although you didn't really drift anywhere in that run, you managed 1st place on your first go. Also you could play the Saturn version of Daytona with the digital pad. It wasn't best the looking version of the game, but the gameplay was there. I'd like to see your take on Outrun 2, that game relies heavily on drifting around corners without losing speed.

@@Unikronn you’ve failed to mention Ridge Racer Type 4!!! That is definitely up there. I actually can’t believe Ridge Racer Type 4 didn’t get a mention, the graphics, the soundtrack, the gameplay and that great intro. Maybe you’re still traumatised from the amount of loses you accumulated from trying to race me. Thanks for the video, you’ve definitely reminded me why I’m the King 🤴🏾 of racing games 🖤🖕🏾🙌🏾😂🤣

@jazfather 🖕🏽 you've never completed Daytona USA ever! Type 4 is good but is superseded by the psp's ridge Racer 2, there's no point in playing type 4 especially as it's 30fps plus both of them are on PS4 & PS5 and are easily accessible so if you want you can prove me right. Just in case you forget...you suck at Daytona USA, scud racer, sega rally 1&2, ridge Racer revolution, ridge Racer 7, rave racer, crazy taxi & burnout 1-3, mario kart (all of them) oh and while I'm here you pretty suck at street fighter 2 champion edition (especially with ryu), street fighter 2 turbo, Hyper street fighter 2 anniversary edition, street fighter alpha 1&2, all of Capcom's marvel games, Capcom Vs SNK 1&2 and sonic 3! Also a blind folded one armed ninja once informed me that your "skills" are lacking in all resident evil games and especially the Sega Mega Drive version of NBA Jam 👀. Have a wonderful day 🙌🏽
