I love this guy. He is so authentic and honest. In my opinion, one of the most reliable role models in triathlon ever. No showman or poser, just Sebi! Btw, a 4th place is definetely a great result!

Perhaps this does not mean much, but you continue to inspire people, like me, to push ourselves in our struggels, whether they are in triathlon or just in life. And that is, frankly, how your influence reaches far beyond your standings. Your work and words literally can change lives - it did for me.

Weitermachen!!

Very well done, Rene! Good captures moments and more important - the story is wide more unfolding now. And - again, out of the wide distance and through my own story tellers eyes, it starts to get interesting on Sebis personal level. My thoughts: Yes, this is a real discontinued journay for you, Sebi. When all live counts only the victory, or being strong, its not easy to shift the old goals and habits. Everyone learns something on his personal journay. Here, it could be one of letting go. After this long time of hunting it will a battle. The old habits are still there. The new ones only flashes at the horizon. But, now is not the time to predetermine things. Now it's time to share and ENJOY the story, honest, like it is, like you are. That's the new and hole goal. That's what you can give back to the sport and all the audience. Thanks for sharing EP.4! :-)

Sebi- continue your quest to push through to new ways of thinking. It is incredibly difficult I’m sure. The way you have had to train your mind to become a world champion doesn’t unwind very quickly. You have all the skills to navigate your way through retirement. Man I respect your spirit and drive. You are such a success!

After all your success in the sport you managed to stay genuine and authentic and to say directly what you feel and your opinion! 👍It's not obviously at all!!! Hats off to your attitude and good luck at rest of your final season 💪

You were 6 when I first did first Kona in 1990. Having now competed in Kona 29 times, one of the highlights of my tri life was spending 45 minutes with you and you then fiancé outside the small coffee shop across from the swim start a few days after the 2013 race. I have met many professional triathletes and none compare to your personality. Sebastian, you ask the questions we all encounter when we are reaching for our best in a sport that requires so much. We do it because we can, since, at some point, we will no longer be able. We do it because it is hard. And we do it because when it is going well there is nothing else like it, and when it is going poorly, there is nothing else quite so harsh. And we do it because we love it and everything about it, from the racing to the training. Is it possible to expect so much from yourself so soon after a sub 8 hour performance in Kona? We can only go to the well so many times and each year the well becomes more and more shallow.

The pressure Sebi puts on himself is immense. It's unhealthy, particularly when this is the 'goodbye tour'. Maybe something worth remembering; humans remember the last thing they do disproportionately to all what came before.

Personally I appreciate that he’s holding himself to the standard he knows he’s capable of, walking away from something you love isn’t easy and I imagine giving it everything you have for one last year is just about the nicest send off you can give yourself. The sport is going to be a different place without his presence and much like Richie Porte I don’t imagine you’d ever find anyone with anything bad to say about the man.

Nothing about Sebastian or his career is "healthy." Nor was this race intended to be a fun/healthy/smiley-face experience. Not everyone shares your typical modern age and very selfish "live life to be happy and healthy" values. Some people seek fulfillment, which often requires suffering. Most inspiring figures, such as Sebastian, value fulfillment over happiness and feeling good. Think of many of the most inspirational characters in history. Most of them suffered. They live fulfilling lives but not lives directed at feeling good all the time or "being healthy." Some people live for a purpose beyond mere pleasure.

@@rylanrussell9595 my guess is you don't have many friends. If someone misinterpret and take-out-of-context so much from so little text, then it speaks highly of their 'own little world'.
@rylanrussell9595
@rylanrussell9595 Жыл бұрын
@@fritsgerms3565 I interpreted it just fine, you just don't like that I've rejected your garbage values, and you assume that I dont have friends because those garbage values that I rejected are very common in modern society. I am entirely satisfied with my social life. Do you have any specific examples of how I've misinterpreted you or as to how I'm wrong? Doubt it.
@fritsgerms3565

@@rylanrussell9595 replying is likely really dumb. But just in case your question is sincere: 'Healthy' does not imply taking something easy. Neither did I suggest aiming low. Neither of these things were implied. And high pressure (in expectation) is not good for anybody (it's stress == Cortisol), since it decrease performance. Most athletes with psychologists try to be as relaxed as possible. Sebi initially said the 'goodbye tour' is to celebrate the sport and to see other beautiful places. As an outsider, one can then only hope - for his sake - that he also enjoys it. Otherwise, it would have been better to stop after Kona.

Ice cream is better than a cigar anyway! You're such an inspiration - and that doesn't depend on finishing 3rd, 4th or 5th. It depends on the way that you have now taken the book in your hands to write the last chapter (at least as a professional athlete) yourself. And I hope you find the serenity to actually enjoy those last races (if one can enjoy pain ...).
