I like to think of Hume's ethics as being like quantum mechanics and Kant's rather as General relativity (Einstein's theory). It really helps me to distinguish between them and to grasp their nuances.

Could you be more explicit as to how it helps for us non-physicists?

As Einstein says, you've understood something only if you are able to make it to understand a layman in simpler terms ❤.@MrKri....

Would Kant believe that contraception is immoral because if everyone did it in all cases then there would be no people around to use it? I can think of many cases where this kind of thinking is counter intuitive Also I have a disgust for deontology, I think if an action that causes the most damage can be called moral then we cease to be saying anything meaningful Personally I feel a strong affinity with Hume to the extent where I feel all other philosophers to be insane, those are my feelings

You could say that about anything. If everyone went out and drove their car at the same time the roads would be to crowded. If everyone become a doctor? There would no other professions. This is simply being to logical and using it wrong. Wisdom and true understanding would tell you that it is simply not the point. You can't throw out a moral theory because it's basis doesn't hold up in situations that have nothing to do with morality. It is simple a tool to see if your actions have moral consequences in society, another way to say do onto others as you would have done onto you.

I fail to see how "acting on a maxim if you can consistently recommend it to everyone" is in any meaningful way different from "acting in a way out of a desire that acting in such a way should be the norm", so I don't think Kant succeeds at opposing Hume - the moral law just looks like desire repackaged to me.
