I still posit that once a soldier is basic qualified they should have to do one of these every year to really teach them how stressful combat is, and how much they need to improve if they want to live through actual combat. And i mean everybody, from the special forces down to the mess cooks and clerks. And especially officers. So that they know what it's like to chew mud, be out of breath, and still need to be able to shoot. How can you command if you don't know what your soldiers are going to have to deal with? Simply, put, (at the lower levels) you cannot. "That company should easily be able to get over 10km of rough ground on foot to be in position to support our pincer movement at o-dark thirty tomorrow morning." Somebody who has had to DO that march? Might just realize that while they might get that company into position, they won't be fit to fight due to exhaustion. OTOH, if they have done it and know it can be done, then they can have confidence that when they order it done, not only can it be done, if it isn't, they can start looking for people to blame and have a valid reason for doing so. Curious what the Chieftain thinks of this as a training exercise given that he is not infantry, and hasn't really trained for something like a brutality match.

From everything I have heard (definitely not from experience)? The U.S. Military has repeatedly tried to train soldiers to be "marksmen", to the detriment of their actual ability to shoot in live combat.
@trioptimum90273 ай бұрын
@@dposcuro It's tricky, because everybody shoots a little wild and a lot fast when there's bullets coming back at them, right? So you actually want your training to be a little slower and a little more careful than you expect the trainees to take the same shots in combat. (If that makes sense?) But the US Army does have a history of focusing on target shooting that has sometimes been a bit of a problem, especially when it comes to choosing sight designs.
