Did cavalry provide a substantial local market for hay, grain, stall straw, and horses in a couple states ? Did this give cavalry a political base of some U.S. Senators that everyone knew about? Is this why Herr could be so near insubordinate?

I concur and have always called it the caliber 50 for the same reasons. The M85, likewise, was also the caliber 50 when I had one mounted on my tank. As long as we are on that subject, let's talk about the GarAND, caliber 30. I was born a few short years after the end of WW2. All of the many vets I was around as a kid, including my father, called the rifle, the GarAND, probably because the US ARMY did likewise. There are early Army training films dating from the beginning of WW2 (see KZbin) that call the rifle the GarAND, and that is good enough for me. I personally don't care how John Garund OR GarAND may, or may not, have pronounced his name. The rifle is the GarAND.

Honestly watching this it's hard to believe it's not a toy like modern reaplkca meant to be a 1:1 scale toy of an IS-3... Like it's so tiny comiared to any US front line tank after 1940... Can't believe it was so theating to the US that itt stopped WW2 from becoming WW3 and scared the US into having a heavy tanks dispiite them hating anything but mediums and MBT...

About the helmet, Finland in fact was one of the oldest helmet manufacturing countries at the time, but those german style "stahlhelm" helmets were all bought, they were only modified for the interior here. there is a study of warhistorial encyclopedia 15/1996 on this by Stig Roudasmaa.

Not relating to this video but perhaps for your next Q&A ... What are your thoughts or comments on The Tank Museum's latest 'take' on the TOG II? As of 4 days ago, they've dialed back on the mockery and come to some new conclusions.

20:45 - In reality, six tanks took part in the battle of Honkaniemi (not five as he said). Five of those tanks were lost in the battle and only one survived because it got stuck in a terrain obstacle right at the very beginning of the attack. Seven other Vickers tanks were unable to participate in the attack due to technical issues (one major issue was frozen water in the fuel system). 31:29 - Nicholas asks about the number of Carden-Lloyd light tanks and the answer (32 pieces) is a bit strange. The Finns only had two genuine Vickers-Carden-Lloyd tanks (Vickers-Carden-Lloyd Mk VI & Vickers-Carden-Lloyd Model 1933) and they both were purchased for the 1934 driving tests. In addition, the Finns captured Soviet tanks, which were based on Carden-Lloyd design.

In 20s and 30s every men served 2 years conscription. Its shorter duration today. Conscription is still mandatory to healthy and level headed males (like in Israel or South Korea). Women are all volunteers, but if they sign, they are also for duration. They get couple weeks "introductory period". After that you are fully within military dicipline and laws. Finnish Army dont joke in these matters. All men who decline to serve and dont get papers from doctor that they are insane are thrown to jail here. In real jail with robbers and murderers. Its only 50 to 60 cowards out of 20.000 year class.

Finns used Vickers 6 tonners in beginning of Winter War. In early Continuation War we used captured T-26. Same tank but they had better 45mm gun, and we had plenty of them to equip 1 tank division. In 1940 Soviets were worlds fastest sprinters, when Finnish motivated them
