Join me as I tackle the stunning yet challenging Holmefirth Loop in South Yorkshire. This ride had it all-breathtaking scenery and a thrilling mix of gravel, sand, and rocky trails. As an amateur rider, the steep and technical green lanes pushed my skills to the edge, but with my trusty Yamaha Tenere 700, I took the gamble... did it pay off?

I keep falling off and the accidents became progressively worse and I decided that ‘attacking’ was probably going to land me in hospital. Did a one to one with Molly at Sweetlamb and learned not to listen to KZbin videos. Just the stance he teaches on the bike is radically different from anything I could imagine. Essentially I was doing everything wrong and getting away with it with a mix of luck and bravado - ‘surviving’ as Molly calls it. Worth getting training.

Thanks for the excellent vid and the route. Indeed the area is lovely, one of my favourite areas so far. I went down the Old Ramsden Road a few months ago (towards the Road Closed Sign ) and it was a nightmare, completely torn up and a real white knuckle ride (for me!). So glad it is being repaired. FIY there is a nice cafe at The Carding Shed Motor Museum, Holmfirth. Worth a stop. Also have you tried the Salter Fell trail yet? Between Slaidburn and Wray. Another nice long easy trail that is also undergoing some repair work I believe..Beautiful area but lots of gates to go through. Another nice little cafe and public toilets by the river on the Settle road in Slaidburn. Cheers.

Ignoring road closed signs on green lanes is a big no, no! Access to the green lanes in the U.K. is always under a lot of pressure and ignoring the signs can spoil it for everybody.

They deliberately put road closed signs on. Notice the big stones to stop 4x4s

My mistake it is closed to all vehicles while repairs are made. It is on the GLASS TrailWise2 app or the TRF green road book pal

you can get a little dongle that allows proper on/off operation of the abs - easy to find online - back brake not front brake mate, don't roll down hills with clutch in, clutch out and using throttle to keep bike balanced is the way, maybe on really steep descents you let the engine do the braking but never roll with clutch in , perhaps roll bars fwd a bit and learn to get elbows out - vertical arms is not the best way to control a bike - easy way to get elbows out is to turn wrists inward on the bars or point the fore fingers toward the reservoirs, feels weird at 1st but the control increase is massive -same with ankles, turn toes into bike and press heels into the frame - knees will then grab the bike and the arms can relax which makes bike control better - pressing on footpegs for change of direction and/or balance, forget arms as tools for control in most occasions, i should focus on riding on your balls of feet too - the mid and rear foot is no help to you if shi7 gets real and will only assist in injury- - good riding by the way, some tasty little lanes there - keep the commitment high 🙂
