For quick reference, here are all the types of roads and paths in the UK: Footpaths - Walking only Cycle paths - Cycling only (though most cycle paths are "shared use", which means walking is also allowed) Bridleways - Walking, cycling, and horse riding Restricted byways - Walking, cycling, and horse riding Byways - All types of traffic Normal Roads - All types of traffic (Though walkers must stick to the pavement if there is one) Motorways - Motor vehicles only

Great info, 30 years road riding I want to start greenlaning for the winter months to get out and about. Looking at a CRF250L as a starter, also have a trailer so can pop over to Wales. Great positive channel 👍🏻

Ah nice one mate, To be fair the 250L Is all you need for the green lanes and perfect for the roads in between each Lane. I'd love to go over to Wales but it's finding a time for me at the moment. Have fun mate 👍👍

Nice, I purchased a Himalayan 450 to start green laning and now need to find them, as you say, there is not a lot of information available without maybe paying for Apps. I also ride a triumph speedmaster for the road after chopping in my tiger 900 rally pro, a lovely bike and done lots of European mileage on it but too tall and heavy for a 5’6” 62 year old. I lived in Kent for 52 years, with the last couple in Lordswood so I recognised some of your route, if not the lanes.

Good tip lads join your local TRF they have GRM green road map where ever you live you can see all the green lanes marked clearly Easy to access on your phone 👍

There are also “green ways” (isle of man) and “public ways” (Lake District), I didn’t know until last year and I thought that those areas don’t have any of those as nothing is shown on the byway maps

Maidstone i think im near by, thinking about starting because i never ride my road bikes. I am too old to spend my time at 120 + just to stop my back aching. You name it i have ridden it off-road even a 1200 bandit. 😅 Could you recommend any group's local to get a wheel spin with.

Yep all around Maidstone mate. Haha I know what you mean about the back pain. You definitely should try it out, it's a great way to get the 120 feeling without the danger. You can always sell the bike if you don't like it 😁

Might be a daft question, but is that bike road legal? I’m wanting to get started but unsure were I stand in regards to getting from green lane to green lane, do you just drive on the road on a non road legal bike basically?

@@XPJamie hay, so green lanes are classed as roads. So you will need to have a fully road legal bike and have a bike leicence to ride on them. Hope this helps 👍

If lane 3 is a Restricted Byway, it's illegal to ride a motorbike on it.

i KNOW THOSE LANES AS I'M FROM MAIDSTONE😀 I have many routes plotted as far out as east kent👍You're not allowed on bridleways/footpaths or restricted byways👍 The KCC interactive map shows all the byways and their status
