I sometimes used to read women's magazines and the last time I did this was almost two decades ago. There was an article in (I think) a Cosmopolitan magazine regarding categories of men, that women should not have 'relationships' with. I thought that it would cover the range of male miscreants such as bullies, criminals and thugs, but no, one category was model makers! That taught me something important as I enjoy constructing scale models, so I gave up chasing women! -thank you Cosmopolitan magazine!

So glad to have been a tiny part of this video - my tank was the result of years of research aided by the LEGEND that is DAVID FLETCHER. I honestly think that model-making has become an essential part of history. Often, modellers uncover facts or depict vehicles that no longer exist. We give life to tank technology that met the indignity of the scrappers torch. Without the innate desire to understand the world around us, history would be redundant, so much would be lost, modelling is a tool for understanding just as it was thousands of years ago when Egyptian tombs contained models of chariots.

I was amazed during the first lockdown how many people I work with build models, someone of these guys I've known for around 15 years, someone just mentioned it on our works page & everybody came out of the woodwork. I enjoy modelling of all types but armour & display figures being my forte. I volunteer for a veterans model group which is fantastic to see how a plastic kit can help individuals with mental health issues. I have made many friends through the hobby & wargaming. Great video good to see Chris Barrie talking about how he got into the hobby and rediscovered it all these years later. I am a railway modeller myself but my Uncle is very much into his British WW2 tanks partly from his childhood building his Airfix kits back then and more recently his renewed enthusiasm for the tanks again. I have been busy buying conversion parts, decals and books from online sellers to allow him to further model aspects of the WW2 North Africa campaign. Myself I have just brought myself the Bachmann model of the Class 45 'Peak' locomotive 45041 "Royal Tank Regiment" as my maternal grandfather was a trooper/driver/trainer in the 4th RTR back then.. so to commemorate my granddad and I can haul the appropriate limestone hoppers with it too.

What I love about this video is not only the different ages of the modelers but also their set ups. Some have offices, some are in basements but everyone is still making great models. I totally agree not only with the statement that its a hobby you can get lost in but also that you need to model for yourself. Don’t feel like you have to weather every single model you build because model builders on KZbin do it (Not that weathering is bad but its not always necessary) and don’t think you have to buy the $129 kit to make a great project.

Many thanks for this video! It was absolutely nice idea, I really-really love it. And I totally agree that each and every modeler needs to feel the same (not the shame!) pride, like all of the participants said it within this video! 😀 Congrats for this content! 👍

Fantastic video mon ami. I have made quite a few fully articulated medieval steel 'Tanks' over the years (Armoured horses) and I would love to share with the Tank museum one day... I recognize folks with a rivet addiction when I see them! Best wishes from an English armourer in a French forest... who also has a WW1 tank fixation. 🏆⚒️🇬🇧

I got back into the hobby a few months ago after a 20 year break and ended up buying almost the entire range of Airfix 1/76 AFVs with no regrets! Funnily enough it's about that long since I visited Bovington so I feel a return trip is almost mandatory when the museum reopens

for context, the gubbins lindy is ranting on about is a british word for small miscellanious objects

@@AnimeOtaku2 no, gubbins is an english word that orks in warhammer obviously use. your obliviousness is both amusing and terrifiying

@@AnimeOtaku2 Like most of our language, it originates in Middle English or Old French. The gents behind 40K would doubtless have thought it an apt word for the Orks.

My main hobby is Napoleonic miniature painting but on occasion, I like assembling some model ww2 tanks so cheers to you fellow model makers! May your trustworthy tweezers never fail you!

The Tank Museum is my primary reason for wanting to take a trip across the pond someday. No doubt my kids would love it, too. Something tells me I would end up blowing the vacation budget on shipping stuff from their shop back to the US. Maybe one of these days...

Best, most effective, and easiest modeling trick for wheeled vehicles: Drag tires across a sheet of sandpaper. That will put a flat spot on them where they rest on the ground. Its a dramatic effect and makes the model just look right.

Good tip, that's a very ancient -maybe forgotten- one
