Nice to hear all the subtleties in the Larrivees. The 12 fret SD has a unique tone.

What a fantastic video. I love the transitions to the various instruments and playing the same thing for comparison.

Great edit. Nice to see a comparison of these beautiful guitars. The OM is particularly nice with a drop tuning

Thanks for commenting! I agree, each of these guitars handles dropped tunings very well.

OO 40R sounded best to me. Incidentally, I recently acquired the OOO 40R, so I may be biased; not surprisingly, it sounds a little fuller than the OO.

More than any comparison video I've seen this illustrates about as well as it can be what tone spectrum differences there are between all the models. I'll be subscribing. It would be too much to ask for, but a comparison video between back and sides woods of the same model - rosewood, walnut, mahogany etc would be really useful for me as well. Thanks!

Thanks for watching and for your comment! I like your idea - are you interested just in Larrivee guitars, or could the comparison be with another brand, or even between brands?

@@OrganicSoundsSelectGuitars I've always had a hard time telling rosewood from mahogany. I read what people say but it's hard to perceive unless it's done the excellent way you've done it here. So, for me any woods with the same body size regardless of manufacturer would help me educate my ear. Thanks for asking!

The so-called experts say mahogany as a back and side wood provides a more focussed, sweeter sound than rosewood, while indian rosewood back and sides often makes the guitar louder and more resonant. Koa back and sides sounds kind of like mahogany, but wih a stronger mid range. Some players like quilted or spalted maple back and sides, because it produces a loud, clear melody that pierces through the mix of players in a band really well and soundsgreat as a lead instrument. Personally I think for the ideal acoustic guitar you can't beat the combination of Indian or Brazilian rosewood, sitka or adirondack soundboard and bracing, a one piece mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, quality 18:1 geared tuners and bone nut/saddle/bridge pins. Something like a Martin OOO-28, a Larrivee OOO-60 or a Taylor 814.

Cool! I like the OM best. Don’t know why…

I agree. I thought the OM sounded the most interesting. I have a Larrivee OM but in rosewood. Big fan of their guitars. This player makes them all sound great!
