That 1961 t-shirt actually fits you great. The logo just got in the way. But always better to wear a polo instead.

Logos can be fun, but they can also childlike, a nice plain designed polo shirt can be far more flattering and a little more structured with a soft collar👍🙂

I got away from blue denim jeans. Chinos with a high rise, pleats and cuffs suit my style. I also have wool and linen trousers. All are high rise, pleated and cuffed.

BD, you got to remember that since you’re built like Kirk Douglas in Spartacus, guys may not see the errors of their ways in your examples of what not to wear 💪😉. When I hit my 40’s, I basically stopped wearing color. Dark jeans and as much black I can. Of course I’ll incorporate some color like blue or camel but I found limited color leads to me feeling like i look a little more put together. Looking forward to the series 👊

Hi there glad you enjoyed the video and you make a valid point. I think it does come down to a person realising they no longer want to dress in jeans, t-shirts and trainers and want to make a step change in the way they dress. I agree that making changes is very subjective and the rate of making changes is also different for each individual. thanks for your contribution and personal views on the subject of change👍🙂

Excellent content, Chris, and I like your original approach to tackling the process of sartorial reinvention. The desire for such change is often brought about by an epiphany of one kind or another; a new job / promotion, entering the dating game after a divorce or relationship break-up, or, in my case, a loss or weight requiring a revision of my wardrobe and, by extension, how I presented myself generally. Another factor might be that you are fed up with being a cookie-cutter version of every other gent of your generation, and you want to up your sartorial game to stand out from the crowd. Whatever the reason, the majority of people take us as they find us and, from personal experience, I discovered that the smarter I dressed, the greater the respect I was shown by those I came into contact with. What's not to like about that?

Glad you enjoyed the video John. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and your personal insights. I completely agree that sartorial reinvention often stems from significant life changes or realisations. It's fascinating how our outward appearance can reflect and even influence our inner growth and confidence. Your experience resonates with me, especially the correlation between dressing well and the respect received from others, people calling me sir, holding doors for me getting better seating etc. It highlights the power of presentation in shaping perceptions and of course interactions. I also appreciate your point about the desire to break away from conformity and to express individuality through style. It's a journey of self-discovery and self-expression that can be extremely rewarding. Your perspective adds depth to the conversation and reinforces the importance of personal style beyond just aesthetics. Lovely to hear from you again dear friend. 👍🙂

Great video. Each of us must find our own style; while I've added hemmed dark wash jeans to my outfits (an American RL look), I would not wear your zipper top in this video unless I was camping. I have ones like that, but I stay away fro zipper jumpers in the city unless on a hike. There is also a careful balance as we get older, we want to look in style, not old style. We must avoid looking like we are wearing a suit from 1970 as if it was a left over from our working years. I do love vintage clothes, but only a piece here and there and it needs to be in a more modern fit, so as to work well with the more modern items we wear with it.

Hi there, lovely to hear from you again and glad you enjoyed the video. You make a great point about the importance of finding our own style and striking a balance between classic and modern elements. I agree that incorporating vintage pieces can add character to an outfit, especially when paired with contemporary items for a more updated look. It's all about finding what works best for each of us and feeling confident in our choices, whether it's embracing a zip top sweater for urban wear or opting for more traditional styles. Ultimately, personal style is about expressing ourselves authentically while staying true to who we are. 👍🙂

Chris, Great advice for someone who is wanting to step up their game. I wear dark blue jeans with a pleated front sometimes they fit like chinos. This would be a good transition. Cheers Ron

Certainly for Americans and Canadians, British gentlemen tend to shy away from jeans. However, as you know, a dark wash, hemmed look is key; no stacking the leg and no wear. The key to dressing up jeans is a long sleeve dress shirt and clean dress boots not sneakers.
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video and agreed with my suggestions. A well fitted pair of jeans can look great if they in good condition and to get that them hemmed correctly to get a break on the shoe just right and avoid that stacking at the ankle/leg. The introduction of long sleeved shirt and dress boots raises the bar and is a great look and I'm going to cover these items in the next video. Thanks for your comments and continued support👍🙂

Looking forward to the next videos. I started moving away from jeans and such last year and feel great but am always looking for the best direction. Just picked up some Barker blue suede shoes for the summertime from TK Max of all places. £89. Your right, footwear is tricky, not least because of the prices of good quality English made shoes.
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, glad you're enjoying the series and it is great to hear things are going well for you moving away from wear jeans etc. £89 for a pair of Barker's suede shoes is a good price and TK Maxx can have some good prices on a number of clothing brands, TM Lewin, The Savile Row Company, Ralph Loren etc. When it comes to shoes, take your time thinking about the versatility of what you are buying and whether you want them to be a statement piece or rather complement the overall image, then you'll be in a position to source them and check out the size properly instore, even if you are not buying them there, so you know your correct size for that brand. As you said shoes are expensive, so don't waste your money👍🙂

Great video again, Chris. Personally, I found polo shirts (as opposed to a polo neck) a great transition piece, they're sort of t-shirts but elevated style-wise a little. A pair of chinos and a smart polo shirt is a great look without being unapproachable and can also be worn with a sport coat or even a Harrington. I'm planning on wearing a cravat to the office for the first time tomorrow...we'll see how that goes down! Y

Hi Yoric, glad you enjoyed the video and I totally concur with you and the use of a polo shirt, whether short or long sleeved as a step towards a more formal look than just a T-shirt and incorporated with a sports jacket, blazer or a Harrington jacket is going to be a great casual look. Hope it all goes well for tomorrow, you'll smash it I'm sure, let me know how it goes👍🙂

The hardest part for me is the transition from sneakers to leather shoes. I have a hard time finding a pair of trousers that I feel comfortable in and fit right for a clean shoe look. I have brown and black leather shoes now but I have only worn brown with black socks and blue jeans
@TheBritishDapper
@TheBritishDapper 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, glad you enjoyed the video, Transitioning from sneakers to leather shoes can definitely feel like a big step, but it's great that you already have both brown and black options in your wardrobe. Experimenting with different trouser styles can help you find the right fit that complements your leather shoes. For a clean shoe look, you might want to consider trousers with a slimmer or tapered leg to showcase your shoes. Mixing and matching with different colours of trousers can also add variety to your outfits. As for socks, matching them to your trousers or shoes can create a cohesive and polished appearance. It's all about finding what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Keep experimenting and you'll find your stride👍🙂

What is a proper way to hang clothes in storage
@canadafree2087
@canadafree2087 5 ай бұрын
It is best to have space between each garment. If you have to push a bunch of shirts to the side before you can pull one out, you may have too much in the closet. Hang dress shirts, never hang sweaters/jumpers, pants can either be folded and hung over a padded hanger (no wire hangers) or clipped upside down by the cuff. Each pant may be different, so keep an eye out for a crease from the bar or marks on the cuff from the clamp (best pants clamps are wide padded). Don't put wet shirts on cheaper wood hangers as it may draw away the varnish and mark your shirts. Store long term wool jackets in cloth garment bags never plastic. Always use shoe trees in your shoes as soon as you take them off so they dry out in proper shape. You can also get boot trees, but use a shoe tree in a boot if that is all you have because it is mainly the toe you are protecting. If you don't wear dress shoes a lot, then a soft shoe bag for each shoe will keep the dust off the shine.
