When I was still young one of my Aunts died and I went out to speak with my dad. He was pretty sad and he told me something that always stuck with me. “When you are young life gives you things but if you are lucky enough to live long enough you reach an age where it starts to take things away from you.”

I choked up when you said, "I just need a place to sit." That stirred something deep in my heart. I remember when you posted about your grandfather going into the kingdom. It's so cool that you had a man that spoke so much into you as you grew up. Videos like this are what originally hooked me to your channel (into KZbin, for that matter). You are a blessing, Cody. Thank you.

Wow. I have an amazing relationship with my father, hunting, fieldsports he always took my to building sites when I was on school holidays, he also bought me a shotgun when I was 13 years old.and taught me the art of falconry until I was 16 when he bought me a harris hawk, I look up to him so much and think sometimes when im telling stories that I haven't got many memories without him in them. I just don't think it's possible to be as good as he is. A real hardworking father that spent all his spare hours teaching me all his skills and life lessons. The ending to this made me choke up emotional. I'm dreading the day I don't have a dad to call for advice. Much love from England.

Thank you for sharing that. I grew up with my maternal grandfather spending a month or two every year with us. Him and my grandmother lived in Wisconsin and we live in Florida but my father built a mother-in-law addition on to our house so they had their own space: bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen. He loved to fish and kept a boat at our house(I grew up on the Estero river) He and my mother loved the water. He taught me how to fish, how to navigate the river, all about tides and oyster shoals and how storms can change the high and low spots in a river. We used to watch Jeopardy every night together. No matter what we were doing even if it was watching TV he was always teaching me something. Thank you for showing the tears, it's I feel sometimes the only physical reminder of him I have left, those tears, when something reminds me so strongly of him and my grandmother. God bless from Florida the last bastion of freedom.

This story reminds me of my grandpa. He lost his leg in WWII and then went on to start a church with my grandma. They pastored for 43 years before he went to his reward in 2005, she passed in early 2015. I miss them terribly, but I so look forward to seeing them again on the other side of glory. And to walk those streets with my grandpa and his two legs. Thank you Cody for being so open and real. And for the memory

I rarely comment but I watch and like every video you put out Cody. This one hit home. My stories about my grandfather are similar to yours, he was a great man that taught me how to hunt, fish, split wood, trap, etc. A true woodsman, a Korean War veteran and a man I regarded as a friend as well as a role model; a relationship I needed desperately as I've never had a good relationship with my dad. I lost him a year and a half ago, and not a day goes by that I don't miss him. My wife and I bought the family homestead, my Grandma moved a few miles away to a smaller place and now it's our turn to carry on his legacy. Thank you for sharing and as you said "I sure do miss that man!"

Cody, My granddad wasn’t related to me at all but my stepfathers father. They were country folk from north Mississippi. I never knew my real grandfathers but that man was more to me than anything. It never ceases to amaze me how much Grandfathers impact the lives of their Grandsons. My paternal Grandpa and I were very close, I'd venture to say that he was my best friend and we spent a lot of time together just doing anything and everything. It's truly a blessing to have a Grandfather who makes it a point to be present in your life as a young man and I too count myself fortunate to have been a benefactor of such kindness.

My father suffers from Crohn’s as well as Myself, I do I remember the first time going in the woods hunting with my father, that is a moment you will never forget, hopefully my two boys will be old enough one day to go hunting with their grandfather and their dad together. Mr. Cody, I lost my grandad back in 2016 i was 16 years old. I still get choked up bout it. The bloody deal of it too is he was my giving tree. I couldn’t have put it any better and I’m grateful to you for this KZbin video comparing the two. The funny thing bout it is that growing up a ranch kid working along side my grandad he and I got in some sticky situations akin to the one you shared in the video. In a way it’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only one who has ever felt this way about one of the key people in their life. I’m sure there’s millions more who’ve had worse situations than you and I combined but this video was a good reminder of that for me and I’m sure many others. I’ll keep you and anyone else who’s had any lose such as this in my prayers. God bless you and thank you for having the talent and willingness to eloquently share your stories of him. I envy you in the best of ways for that so thank you for doing it for us who wish we could.

The Giving Tree. My Grandmother gave that to me and my oldest son. She passed away a few years ago. I have asked both of my boys to read it, and even sent them the you tube video. It is a message she was sending me, and fortunately I figured it out before she passed. It is the sacrifice that we make for our children and our wives that defines us. Your tears have been shared by me as well. We have a duty to make them...our children...remember why they have what they have been given and obtained. That is knowledge and wisdom. They may not get it yet, but they will eventually.

I dont believe that I have commented on any of your videos before, Cody. I watch them very often though. I always find a message or a lesson in all of them. I suffer from anxiety that can be quite debilitating at times. A rush of peace flows over me when I watch your content like this. Thank you. Thank you for putting out such quality videos.

I just had this very conversation with my 22 year old nephew sitting on the tailgate of his pickup while we were watching my father his granddad plant corn this morning. He told me that he felt like he didn't spend enough time with his granddad because of college and working. I let him know real quick that his granddad understood life much better than he did and that he loved him just as much today as he did 11 years ago when he was following his granddad around the farm every chance he got. There is only one thing that can cause what just happened to you. LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Love you had for your grandfather and the Love he had for you. The saddest thing I've ever realized is that there are thousands of people who have no idea what it feels like to experience what you just experienced. God Bless!

Lucky to have had such a prominent figure in your life. Not many kids have had that privilege. Some have had the privilege, but they piss it away and only realize what they missed when the time comes that they are the ones in control of their own life. My grandpa sounds just like yours, lucky to have him to this day in my early 20s

Love, love, love this video. Thanks for sharing this, Cody. My grandfather passed shortly before my first child was born. When my son came into the world I was so happy but sad at the same time because Grandpa never got to meet him. My grandmother would live on to 100 years of age and got to meet all of my children and I can't thank god enough for allowing that to happen.

I did not know my grandfathers. For you to have such love and memories and a heart that allows you to share this it sort of makes up for my loss. Thank you.

I was never close to my grandfathers, but I was close to my grandmothers. I still fantasize about working the heifers with one of my grandmothers. Her voice still rings out in my head and it pains me that she didn't survive her battle with cancer. She taught me so many things, how to drive a manual transmission (at 10), how to work hard, how to be fair and how to be compassionate. Of any of my elders, I wanted to be like her. She was my hero.

Cody, I don't think anyone could watch this video with dry eyes. My grandfather was and thankfully still is a huge part of my life. I know the day will come when he is not physically here with me anymore, but I truly believe that if we think and speak about our loved ones they are never truly gone. I know your grandad is proud that you still think of him and tell your stories of him and how good of a man he was. Keep him alive in this way until the day you get to see him again, God bless!

I shed a tear with you. I was in my early 20s when I lost my grandpa. I was right there with him growing up on his little farm but when I hit late teens and early twenties I didn't have time for him. I'm glad you got a little time with him to meet jack. I miss him and I'm crying with you. Tears of joy and sorrow. They were great men and they don't make them like that anymore. All we can do is try to be half the men they were.
