It's disgusting that it took so many years to believe the Postmasters/Postmistresses. They gladly threw these people in Prison and walked away with their profits.

The second scandal is that none of those in the Post Office who were responsible for this have been jailed! Apparently a heat of the moment tweet, that isn't meant, is more deserving of a substantial term behind bars.

The bizarre thing about this Capture story and Horizon is that I have not seen any mention of involvement of finacial managers, accountants, auditors, systems managers, etc. Spreadsheets, systems, programs all need thorough checking, constantly with robust controls in place. This is to identify a range of issues that can and do occur, from input errors, set up problems, mishandled corrections, just to start a list. I have found commercial banking systems to have major flaws, only by understanding how it should work, running a control did I identify the problem and was able to explain it to them to get it corrected. In the case of the Horizon problems, investigators need to look at the suspense account records, apparently finance people were moving funds into suspense accounts as they didn't know where the differences were from. That should have been dealt with by the day for such a large organisation, then reported to the board at the end of the month. How could Financial statements be produced let alone signed off or audited with such balances? What happened to those balances? So from the smaller issues of the Capture to the massive problems of Horizon, the financial management seems to be absent.

There are people in the States over here who are dealing with situations similar to this and it is such a blessing to have the testimony of Sir Alan Bates, Mrs Jo Hamilton adn the others on the PO Horizon IT Inquiry participants and staff. I have long been wondering that. Where has the money ended up? What is there in place to ensure that the Fujitsu employees accessing the system in Bracknell have not been filling their boots?

@@matthewhackett1710 i'm convinced it is. Someone or a group of people have been helping themselves. For example there was a female postmaster that was charged double every time someone bought a lottery ticket. That had me convinced, because if your stealing money under ones nose, it is safer to do it with something that involves other parties. Because if she'd figured out it was the lottery charging double, Naturally she'd first have to chase up the issue with the lottery company. And because Royal Mail closed they're shields because they're literally communists she would have been left not knowing whom was lying to her for sure. That is not the actions of a glitch, that is that actions of an absolute piece the thieving sh8t trying to not get caught.

There was no need for the first one. S Yorks police informed in 1999. Embarrassed counsel confession to perverting justice 1999 should have halted the prosecutions

My take away so far is that the contracts for these systems, do not require them to be fit for purpose! If the system worked the errors would not of happened and people would not be wrongly convicted.

Fujitsu have got away with the perfect crime. Stealing from postmasterswho put the money back in. Except when this got to be too much. Horizon is still in use, are the offices giving Fujitsu access to accounts with the ability to alter figures.
