My dad was hospitalized while he was fighting cancer. He was bleeding a ton from his urine. The bleeding would not stop and he was anemic. One evening the nurse comes in with an injection. I asked her what the injection was for. She said it was a blood thinner. I said “blood thinner?”. He’s been bleeding a ton and we can’t control his bleeding, why would he be getting a blood thinner? She said “it’s protocol and given to all hospitalized patients to prevent blood clots while they are hospitalized”. I said “no. I refuse.” She had to ask the doctor and get clearance to not give it to him. I was shocked. Had I not been paying attention , he would have received it without him or I noticing. Had he died with uncontrollable bleeding, they would have blamed cancer, not their protocols.

Many years ago while I was visiting my father in the hospital, nurses kept saying his last name wrong. I first thought maybe they were reading it incorrectly, but decided to stay. It happened again and I corrected the nurse and told my mom if it happened again, I would go to the charge nurse. Sure enough it happened a third time and they were trying to give my father the wrong medication. It turns out that there's a drawer for every patient room behind that desk with medications. They were trying to give my dad medicine belonging to another patient! I immediately went out ti to the desk and reported it and said I would go straight to the administrators if it wasn't corrected immediately. Never leave a loved one alone in a hospital...ever!

Very True I believe you as bad things happened to my hospitalised demented mum. Nurses torn apart the protective cover i sewn on her mitten to prevent her scratching herslef, and throwing away her foot support, unwilling to point out who is the one who throw it, and lying to me she don't know where it is and later telling me it was torn open and she saw somebody throwing it into the bin. My mum is too weak to tear apart anything, obviously some nurses are doing some destructive work! And if they were to throw any of our things away particularly mum feet support, they should have showed it to me first instead of me hunting for it and asking if they have seen it! There is more stories but I leave it here. Do not leave your loved ones in hospital alone. This happened in Singapore.
@bonnessacoy899010 ай бұрын
@@kayaba8702 They did short cut. The last name they used was similar to my father's. It was only on the 3rd attempt, when dad realized a pill they were trying to make him take, he didn't recognize. When he asked the nurse what it was and she responded, he said, I don't take that. That's when she realized she had the wrong name. That's why I went ballistic. I had every right. Thankfully I had previously worked in a hospital and knew this information. I also knew if a case where this exact thing happened, a patient died and the hospital covered it up and told the nurse not to talk about it. Yes, mistakes happen when the processes are not followed and unfortunately patients die.

I had a doctor that wanted to put me on a “little water pill”… which I discovered when I went to the pharmacist was actually a blood pressure medication… for something unrelated to blood pressure. My bp has generally been on the low side, sometimes as low as 90/60. It has gone up in my later age, but still generally pretty low. Needless to say, I refused to take the meds. There was no mention by the doctor of what this drug actually was or what adverse reactions I might have. Too often I have been offered treatments with no discussions about what they are, what they are supposed to do, or what problems I might have to watch out for. It has been imperative that I do my own research before I take anything, because the doctors won’t do it.

John Campbell in particular is the worst sort of example as his channel started out as properly evidence based and you can literally debunk a great deal of what he now says by his own words from his channel 2 or so years prior. He simply turned to an anti vax stance when his viewing figures went down at the end of the pandemic He cherry picks poor quality and debunked studies to present, presents blog posts as publish studies, feigns outrage at what he knows to be standard practice in drug trials that he has previously agreed is the norm, misrepresents statistics and invites discredited and struck off medics to his channel and presents them as world renowned experts. Worst of all he simply ignores studies and meta analysis that do not align with what he knows gets the clicks on youtube. He and others like him do a great deal of damage to peoples health and generate mistrust of the medical community, and then worse still when the effects of what they do starts to filter through to public health like growth in measels outbreaks because of lower vaccination rates they then hold that up as proof that we are being lied to about vaccine effecacy. Anyone that can say they have 'lost trust in ALL doctors' has quite simply lost touch with reality.

A hospital already killed off 3 members of my closest family. The last one being my mother, and over what? Lack of caring for a treatable bed sore that ended up infecting her blood. They were too busy pushing their covid agendas that they refused to allow me or my father in to watch what was going on with my mother. She died 3 years ago, but the wound is still fresh as if we lost her yesterday. I will never trust hospitals ever again. I had emergency surgery a year ago but haven't been back for follow up appointments or visited my doctor since, and I will continue to avoid them. They to me are nothing more than slaughterhouses, and the only reason I had the surgery was to stick around to care for my elderly father, otherwise I would have taken my chances.

Thank You Dr Dahnd! My husband was over medicated like this at the hospital, and when he got out our primary care tried to tell him 97/70 was great! Too tired to get out of bed and almost fainting when getting up? Great! He is 50yrs old and works, and you know, would like to participate in life. NOT GREAT. Also, because the anticoagulant was too strong and making him artificially anemic, he wanted to add iron, but REFUSED to lower the max dose anticoagulant. Institutions and industry have changed the very words they use to scare people into doing what you are told and actively discourage questions, may even answer with vague or threatening answers. Please be vigilant, advocate for yourself and your loved ones, know the red flags for bad treatment and doctor response, research what you can, and shop for a new doctor if you must. Until I retired I was a ward manager on a frailty ward. Patients came to us via medical assessment whereby they were given new medications and our frailty consultants spent their time taking them off. Poly pharmacy is a huge cause of falls in the elderly which leads to fractures and immobility and in some cases shortens their life span. The problem I see is that most studies are backed by big pharma so they have a financial motive to get more people on medications they probably only need in the short term which they continue taking for years.

I've been an RN for over 30 years. I'm appalled at the number of staff who don't know (or don't care) how to take a proper blood pressure (proper technique, correct equipment, manually checking results that are outside the accepted parameters of the electronic equipment, etc.). No treatment should start without the correct information.

In 2008 I had a VP shunt put in. When I was wheeled into ICU my blood pressure was elevated. I don’t know how much. A nurse came in and saw my blood pressure and said she wanted to talk to a doctor to prescribe me medication for it. I said no I don’t normally have high blood pressure. I’m probably stressed from just having surgery. Thankfully as far as I know I was not given BP medication. It seemed like a snap decision without checking my medical history/records.

I am so glad to hear you speak on this topic ! As an R.N. I know from experience that what you are saying is very true. Another thing that happens is that a patient comes in with problems that are likely caused directly or indirectly from too much blood pressure medication. (Needs can change ! ) During hospitalization the nurses end up holding most of the blood pressure medications and the patient improves. Then the hospitalist on call comes to discharge the patient and writes "Continue home meds" Then off goes the patient on too much medication again. It is so important for anyone on blood pressure medication to take their own blood pressure twice a day and before and after medication, and keep a record of it. This would save so many lives.

During those 6 weeks a local nurse working once a week in a chemists shop worked with me to bring my BP down. She succeeded. When I returned to see my doctor he checked my BP and said "Well your BP is down so we'd better double your dose". The new prescription was for 10 mg tablets. Theee days later I returned to his surgery and asked if I could continue taking the 5mg tablets. I've never forgotten his reply or careless attitude as with a shrug of the shoulders he turned to his computer saying "do what you like". I now believe these doctors know they are answerable to no-one. If school teacher's behaved similarly during an Ofsted inspection they would FAIL. Incidentally 3 months later I stopped taking BP medication using diet. I'm 77, retired from teaching in 2021 and despite my doctor telling me diet would "probably not" help either, have never returned to any form of medication. They seem to have no knowledge of the healing power (or otherwise) of food.

I had a health crisis about a year ago now. Hospitalized for anxiety and exhaustion. Drs made me take meds. I was NOT EVER informed of my rights as a patient. EVER about anything . Drugs made me hallucinate. They said I can't leave without taking drugs. I said no drugs because of side effects. I just want to go home. Not allowed to go home without taking drugs. Then staff threatened physical intimidation and harm if I didn't take drugs. Different drugs. Different side effects. I kept trying to decline. Then they threatened me with electro shock and their diagnoses just kept getting more and more bizarre because those drugs made me so much worse. A year later and I'm irreparably injured -physically, neurologically and cognitively. I feel some deteriorating everyday...bit by bit. I stopped taking drugs soon after I got home but was so traumatized that I was hallucinating for long time after. They did it on purpose and have done similar to others as well. Watch out. No lawyer will touch this for injury case. Use this as another warning.

Thanks, Doctor, for your common sense approach to Healthcare, and yes, I agree. Today's Healthcare system seems to be full of "technicians" acting as automatons, rather than being the critical thinkers that we were trained to be long ago. Another example of overly tight control of bio parameters is blood glucose: there was an aggressive approach to achieving tight control, which only led to higher mortality rates. I'm still a working flight nurse, and my solemn oath to "do no harm" and "evidence based practice ' still applies. Best to you.

Do you remember when a “normal” blood sugar was 120? Now that’s “pre-diabetes. Time for drugs.

There should be more doctors like you!

There was a medical observation report from a military hospital in England during WWII where they observed that the wounded soldiers who had higher blood pressures (130s 140s) recovered better and faster. Ooooo .....maybe the Body and Mind knows what it’s doing by delivering more oxygen and materials to heal.

I agree with you totally. We nurses must be patients’ advocates and always question the doctors “why ?”.

I've said for a long time now: we have to be our own doctors. Then when our doctoring skills are exhausted - THEN we seek out professional help.

I find the thing they put on your arm very painful. How do you get an accurate reading when you're hurting someone? They tighten it and tighten it, like being in a vice. I asked the nurse once, if I put a nail in her foot, wouldn't that raise the blood pressure?

@@danielleschmidt7825So true, I was having my blood pressure taken once many years ago and for some reason the doctor ( not my regular Dr ) doing the procedure made me really nervous. I can’t recall what it was about him that frightened me but my normal blood pressure reading was too high & he said he couldn’t understand why. I knew exactly why. lol
