My friend had this medication and he had foam mats on the floor of his apartment so he would fall softly. Before the medication he was fine. He now is dead also because of something else they did to him in the hospital. This needless killing has to stop.

Yes but the good doctors won't prescribe you things you don't need, or at least, if they have to, they'll help you find the generic alternatives (which my doctor does, but I have diabetes so doctor visits are required for me, but they have me on pretty much all generic medications so they unlikely are getting any kickback from any of them). One did try to prescribe this new drug a few years ago and I stopped seeing that doctor as it was clear they were being pressured to prescribe the new drug, but when I found another doctor, they said "That's a new drug, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it yet even though it's FDA approved. Try this other generic one that's been around for decades."

Also have spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease and have had 5 spinal fusions. I went carnivore almost 3 years ago and my pain is minimal, anxiety and depression are gone, type 2 diabetes is gone, fatty liver gone, and I have been able to at least postpone a 6th spinal fusion and, knee replacement and shoulder replacement! I am now off 8 of my 11 long term prescriptions and reducing the remaining ones!! Feel better than I have in over 25 years!! Also have eliminated the need for so many specialists!! So true, worked as P.T. home health care for years, one patient of mine reported feeling lethargic dizzy lightheaded all signs of low blood pressure, systolic was 86, yet she was about to take two blood pressure pills and a blood thinner which also lowers blood pressure, I had her call pharmacist first, he was heard yelling on phone, "don't take any of those three pills, call your doctor now!!" In other words, my cautionary warning probably saved her life, remember low blood pressure can be more a problem than high, it very often precedes death!! Over medicating patients is a national scandal indeed ~

Am an RN in a hospital, have been for 12 yrs and you are spot on. I have been creating the nursing care plan for my patients based on these common adverse effects resulting from the interplay of pathology syndromes and medications. When the attending physician for the patient orders the typical regimen of BP medications, I have a plan ready-made to intervene quickly during a rapid response. I educate patients and remind them that they have the right to refuse the prescribed treatment. Yes, I lost my prior RN position in 2021 for refusing the jabb . Healthcare serves big pharma more than the patients now. Sad.

I have complained to several doctor's offices that their help insists on taking my "resting" blood pressure the minute I sit down. When I'm allowed to rest for a minimum of five minutes, my BP is typically around 110/62 or thereabouts. But if they take the moment I sit down, it varies from 125/70 to 140/75. Recently, I had surgery. The follow up went just as I described, except that I told the nurse I wanted to wait five minutes..she said she didn't know if she could wait that long, and left. In my chart, she wrote that I refused having my bp and weight checked. I in fact, was weighed by her, and did not refuse my bp. She falsified my chart.

But 125/80 is ok too. The doctors and pharmaceutical companies try to make it bad to make us pay for pills. Anything below 130/80 or 130/90 is good. Even 135/90 or 140/90 is ok Sometimes like after exercises or specific moments of stress. Or course it should be low when we're relaxed but It's the doctors and corruption thats the problem. They really are fear mongering. Blood pressure shouldn't even be a topic. But the doctors and pharmaceuticals make it a problem.

I had the horrible experience of having my 80 year old mother having a exasperation admitted to an IC unit and being intubated. I was by her side the entire 7 days and found the attending nurses to be excellent and horrible. After 3 days a new shift came on and the responsible caring new day nurse went through mom's charts and realized my mom's fluids were 4-5 liters high. The previous nurses were to lazy to bother reading the charts. You must be there for your loved ones whether they like it or not. If you do not they will not put the effort in. Ask questions and find out what they are doing and research the treatments they are administering. I truly believe my mother would not have made it without my support and for the professional nurses not the ones there to just pick up a paycheck. Doctors rely on these nurses to perform. Also in these IC units a lot of things are happening behind the scenes with the IC teams that your not aware of and when you think things are not being looked at they are..

Hi Dr Dhand. I'm a retired ER RN. I worked in 22 different ERs in my career (I was a traveler for 7 years). I saw it all. A HUGE disconnect occurred between doctor and nurse near everywhere I worked in that communication between the two was relegated to written orders. It should be MANDATORY that doctors join in with nurses during shift changes AND during important moments when sharing info is absolutely necessary. I have worked with thousands of doctors. The ones that scared me the most were those unwilling to interact with the staff.

When I was a young woman I took a class in cosmetology and right next door there was the nursing class and we would go over and the nurses would take our blood pressure. The young woman that was taking my blood pressure was very frustrated because she wasn't getting the right reading and there were probably about 40 students in the nursing class and the teacher saw her struggling and came over and attempted to take my blood pressure and the teacher couldn't get a reading either the right way and she finally stood up and she said this is a case one in a million. Her blood pressure is so low that she is legally dead. My blood pressure has always been low but I am as healthy as a horse at 70 now

So my wife took my BP twice a day for 60 days, Thats 120 times in 2 months. 14 times, Out of 120, it was slightly elevated. My cardiologist STILL insisted on me being on BP Meds and of course Statins. I fired him

I've heard that at least 1 out of 4 people have white coat syndrome. I am one of them. And yet our blood pressure is usually taken only once during a doctor appt and usually shortly after having our weight and height taken( also things that can raise anxiety and therefore blood pressure). And yet so many doctors will prescribe bp meds from that one time. I'd advise all people to take their blood pressure at home on a regular basis and to study and apply measures about diet and exercise to have a healthy blood pressure.

I like this guy and applaud his honesty. Most patients with no clinical experience are too intimidated by arrogant uncaring doctors to stop and say, "Is this recommended or required" and if a doc says required, then ask WHY? When they have to prove it and can't, there's your confirmation to FIRMLY say "No, I decline." Ditto your vet care. So many people and pets are put through painful tests and procedures that give no concrete answers, just rule things out. It's insane and not going to stop until people speak up!

Yes, I remember when my father was discharged from hospital in the UK following pancreatitis despite the positive covid test he got the day before release. We were glad to get him out as visits weren't allowed mid-pandemic. On release he kept getting tired, laying down, having more symptoms and he just collapsed a couple of times and his blood pressure was low. I realised after a while that he was on 3 medications that would lower blood pressure and he hadn't had high blood pressure since his heart bypass some years ago. I intervened with my mother to get him off of two of them and he recovered pretty quickly. He was surrounded by `experts' in hospital who discharged him with drugs that could have ended his life. So much for all that expertise. I'm glad to know why from this video - excellent as always.

I always appreciate your recommendations. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am a nurse. When I was in the hospital years ago, a nurse tried to give me blood pressure meds. I asked her what my blood pressure was (I already knew what it was). She said she didn't know but would look in the computer. My BP was low (always runs low). She was going to administer the med anyway. I was hoping to have educational moment. So much for that. I refused the meds and asked to be discharged. I haven't been to a doctor or hospital as a patient since that event.

In May, after checking my blood pressure several times, my doctor told me my reading was 165/82 (I was there for an unrelated reason) I was surprised by this information; however, there is a history of high blood pressure in my family-but I had already decided not to participate. 😊 I was offered a prescription but I turned it down, saying I’d try something else. So, ever since the last week of May up to, and including today, I have been getting an average of 18,000 steps a day in walking. Prior to this I was rebounding for 15 minutes six days a week. My blood pressure is now averaging 118/70. Definitely an improvement. In addition to the improvement in my blood pressure, I lost ten pounds that I’d been wrestling with for the past several years. So a drug free win-win here. Thank you, Dr. Dhand for all your words of wisdom. 😃

Hi, I've been going to hospital recently because of severe pain on my left side lower back, I had an incline that it could be kidney stone or urine infection because I've had this pain before about 8 years ago, I did have abit of blood in the urine and they gave me strong antibiotics for the infection, but they did a CT scan afew days after and I have a very small kidney stone aswel, the thing is my blood pressure has been coming so high when they been checking my blood pressure, between 164 and 186 and they are telling me to go to my GP to keep a check on my blood pressure, my GP wants to keep a check on it and if it's still so high he wants to start giving me BP tablets, I've got a machine at home that checks the blood pressure and I been checking on that at home and it's been 152 to 166 in the last 2 days, what do you think I should do? I'm really strict with myself taking tablets prescribed by hospitals and doctors, I've always been like this for years but I would love to know from a nurse like yourself, thanks

I've found coffee does affect my blood pressure too. I was recently prescribed a blood pressure pill for the first time at age 54. My blood pressure in the GP clinic was 160/90. However I found the medication made me feel dizzy. A week later I had to go back to the GP for an unrelated matter and the nurse took my blood pressure and it was 130/80. Of course they thought it was improved because of the BP medication. However, I wasn't taking the medication because of how it made me feel. I wondered what on earth could make my blood pressure come down, and then I realised I hadn't had a coffee that day (I only had one a day usually). I have not had coffee now for over a month and my blood pressure remains about 130/80 ish. I do get a bit of white coat syndrome, so perhaps it is even closer to normal that that in reality. Coffee (even just one) can certainly raise blood pressure, and some people are more sensitive to this effect of caffeine than others as well I've learned.

As a retired critical care nurse of 35 years I would advise people to invest in their own reliable BP machine for home use and watch the trends. At doctors office what usually happens is the patient gets one BP reading from a nurse that hooks you up to a machine with sometimes the wrong sized cuff and if elevated never takes it again unless you ask. This after perhaps driving through traffic or rushed to get to the appointment or a host of other situations. Consciously or sub consciously you may be nervous which too will elevate your BP. Also the cuff can become so uncomfortable, tight and even painful that it probably makes your pressure go up. Also, you never know how often the machine has been calibrated and if its giving you a true reading. A few years back I went to the doctors office and with a one time reading the doctor placed me on Lisinopril and the next day I went for a walk and almost passed out due to hypotension. After that I got my own machine and have been in the normal range and I will continue to monitor it and never took that medication again.

Dear Dr. Dhand. Thank you for making this video. I'm sure that it won't make you very popular with your fellow health professionals. This has been going on for many years. About 15 years ago my mother had three crushed discs in her back. She was admitted to hospital for a good number of weeks. For at least two weeks, the nurses would give her her all of her meds, although one of them caused her blood pressure to drop to circa 80 over 40. She was then placed on a drip, as an emergency procedure. After a few days myself and family members spotted the pattern and asked if the offending med could be stopped/lowered until she left the hospital. The doctors refused, until one day, my mother seemingly close to death for seen by an "on-call" doctor. He immediately stopped the offending medication and my mother wasn't placed on an emergency drip for the remainder of her time in hospital. It was a complete lack of common sense from the health "professionals, which I genuinely believe would have led my mother's death without the intervention of the "on-call" doctor!

He said he considers all his patients who were diabetic to still be diabetic even if their blood work changes. He prescribed a statin but I declined, in favor of continuing a healthier lifestyle. This happened 5-6 years ago when my elderly father was admitted to an NHS ‘hospital.’ He was literally on just an aspirin a day and paracetamol but in their infinite wisdom, the hospital dr re-prescribed BP medication that my father was taken off 12 months prior! Why? Just because! Consequently my father was struggling to walk he was so weak, he was confused and lifeless. But at the time I couldn’t understand his decline. It wasn’t until I asked after his meds that I realised what they’d done. Oh we put him on them because he was on them before, the dr said. But his own GP had taken him off them 12 months prior because with age, his BP had dropped significantly. My response to the hospital dr was…if someone comes in who had their leg chopped off last time they were admitted, you don’t chop the other leg off because that’s what they had done before…do you? If you’d have read his notes on admission you would have seen I gave all this info. Being admitted today is like a game of Russian roulette I’m afraid…sometimes you might get decent care backed up by quality drs…other times you’re surrounded by numpties wearing a badge 🤦🏻‍♀️

The opposite happened to one of my friends. She started diarrhea and constant vomiting. She was admitted to the hospital. They said it was probably an intestinal infection, so gave her medicine for that. The medicine's side effects were nausea and diarrhea. Despite being over age 65, my friend's blood pressure is very low because she she has been exercising and eating low carbohydrate for over 10 years. So, being sick lowered her blood pressure even more. And the nurses kept talking her blood pressure while she was lying down. So, her blood pressure was showing even more lower. She felt too sick to think about all this. The hospital kept her three days for observation while giving her medicine to increase blood pressure. The staff kept asking, "Are you dizzy," to which she kept answering, "No." She finally started sitting up when they came to take her blood pressure and started telling them that her blood pressure is normally very low. They sent in a PT employee to do her blood pressure and watch her walk. She was very careful while walking in the hospital's treaded socks because they had very bad traction. The hospital finally let her out when she told them that she needs to get back to work and that her blood pressure is normally very low. By then, the hospital had maxed out and gone over her annual out of pocket.

I get the opposite. I have been in the hospital a couple of times for major surgery. My BP runs low all the time, I used to be the "training dummy" in both EMT class and RN school because of it. When I'm not feeling well in hospital, it has sometimes been 70 over 40 and I am still mentally normal and no problems, BUT then they keep trying to increase it by giving me a lot of IV fluids. Luckily for me all this does is make me pee constantly (and complain constantly until they stop the excess fluids that are also racking up a huge bill), but as a RN I have seen doctors to this to people with low BP and fill up their lungs with fluid. One patient died because of this, and of course they then blamed the nurse for following the doctor's orders! If you are too sick to speak up for yourself a hospital is likely the most dangerous place you can be; modern medicine will kill you.

I'm similar to you, when I'm ill, my BP plummets. One time in the ambulance (burst appendix), I asked the ambo what my BP was. With a straight face, he said "I think you're dead." 😆

This is an amazing video. I work in pharmacy and educate physicians, nurses, and patients/their families in a hospital setting. It’s absurd the amount of ED physicians that load in 2-4 BP meds upon admission, then scramble to get BP back to baseline for D/C. Almost 9 times out of 10, there’s a BP med in there that absolutely is uncalled for. I have also had about 4 patients in the last month where we discontinued 1 or 2 BP meds at HOME after discharge, and their baseline BP was within range after a month…. Really makes me want to put together some sort of in service for my inpatient hospitalists. Any tips on that would be appreciated, much love and best of luck to everyone else out there serving our communities.

Thanks doctor! I've spent near 2 months at the hospital very recently whee they would take my vitals 5 times a day and my blood pressure was at 109/90 for which they considered perfect. I had asked the nurse what reading would cause her to worry about something. She said that for me, 150 and above would be concerning since I've never been above 120 to date. But that same 150 could mean an improvement for someone else! And that the ones with hbp would be at 200! But my Mom was part of the ones that were taking high blood pressure medication but was telling me that she had been having low blood pressure incidents lately. I knew she was monitoring herself so I asked her average and it was 120/90. To me, that's not high, but she'd been taking this medication for years making sure to always have a prescription but never questionning the need. Well, she's been off them by the doc, no lowbp incident and with regular readings... We are in Montreal, Qc, Can. If you don't question you'll get all kind of unneeded medicine supposed to solve something but causing a dufferent problem! So thanks again, for all!

Excellent content - this has happened to me. Result was collapse & trips to ER by EMS. Multiple meds overlapping that in combination caused precipitous drops in blood pressure & unconsciousness, falls. I HAD TO CATCH IT: it was me figured it out, NOT the medical team. This guy provides worthwhile content.

I used to work as a senior carer in a dementia care home and this video resonates with me so much. I lost count of the number of times my residents had a fall due to rock bottom BP (sometimes as low as 80/40) and almost all of them were on at least one antihypertensive medication and sometimes 3 or 4. As you can imagine, these people are extremely vulnerable not just due to cognitive impairment but also due to low muscle mass, sensory impairments and dehydration. Consider also that bone mineral density is frequently low in this population and it’s not surprising some of my residents sustained pelvic fractures as a result. GPs are too busy to do regular medication reviews but fundamentally the medical model is simply tick boxing and ‘reductionist’. The fact you say that insulin resistance is frequently the cause of high blood pressure is also interesting as most of my residents were diabetic.

I believe the automated BP machine in my MD's office is rigged to read higher along with the weight scale. My home machines are not crap, and I trust their readings. One day, after I saw my family MD, I visited a specialist's office for an appointment. Their weight reading was 8 lb lower, and their automated BP machine reading was 22 lower for the systolic pressure. So, what changed in the drive from one MD office to another? The BP reading at my family MD office is always higher than at my specialists' offices. My family MD said their machines are calibrated and accurate and pressured me to take hypertension meds. BS. Has anyone else had this experience? I am shopping for another MD on my insurance plan, but the promising MDs are not taking new patients.

As a board certified Naturopathic Doctor, I THANK you, Dr.Dhand for confirming this. I have only been in clinical practice a few years but I have discovered this with many of my clients, already. Before I recommend anything to my clients, I pour over (ie: I study both, in my catalogs as well as any new info online pertaining to medications) over each one of their medications

I bought a home blood pressure kit and used it as soon as i got home. I had three different readings in one day. The instructions also said that blood pressure goes up after a hot shower, eating, stress etc. So if you are in doctors office and feeling stressed of course its going to be elevated. I really believe people get put in medication they dont need!

The issue with blood pressure is that what is high for one person, is not for another. If you have metabolic syndrome, which many Americans do, 120 is an upper limit. Europeans are much healthier, so 140 is fine. Put this in terms of a garden hose. If you have a good, flexible hose, it can take a lot of pressure. If the hose is weak, it can't. Americans have weakened arteries due to chronic inflammation, so some parts of the medical community (not all) set the systolic limit at 120 because they lump together the well and the sick.

Bravo Doctor Dhand ! I'm Canadian and I am an almost 40 years ER RN now retired. Around 25 years ago, we got the news that the notion of hypertension would start at 135/85 !!! I was beside myself !!! So I totally understand your frustration... And lately, the same thing is happening with cholesterol ! So the battle is far from over... Stay strong ! Please know that you are among the very few '' real '' doctors on this planet... Thank you. Take care. 🙏
