In this video I give you a (not so) secret tour of my Lime Juicer setup. Lime, formerly Limebike, is an on demand transportation company that rents dockless scooters (Lime-S) and bikes.

I leave all the scooters I collect in my vehicle over night to charge. I park my car in the garage and run a lead to the car and hook the chargers up. They don't pay me enough to be lifting scooter in and out of the car all the time. I know they say it's a fire risk but so is charging them in your garage. Nothing worse than lifting and stacking scooters into the vehicle at 5 am in morning.

As long as it's done right I see nothing wrong with it because you're right loading these scooters (which are now even heavier) can be a pain

@@YourDriverMike I've now taken a break from charging scooters as it's no longer profitable in my city. Prices for harvesting scooters have steadily decreased over the past year. In the beginning they were paying $7-$8 minimum in my city. The highest I ever collect was $13 for a single scooter. Now prices are as low as $5.5 and decreasing. Unfortunately Lime does not care as they have 21,000+ people on the waiting list to become juicers where I live and they are willing to pay for their own chargers. Alot of the original juicers that helped lime in the start have all left. I guess this is the future of employment in the gig economy.

I've arrived at about 6 scooters where someone else was in the process of harvesting which is very frustrating to get SO close just to miss out on that pay then having to find another scooter. I like the live streaming idea I'll have to set that up.

Anybody had the experience where you are baited into driving a considerable distance to harvest a lime. When you show up the lime disappears from the map unavailable for harvesting and then you quickly realize that it has been turned off? What has been turned off is the harvesting feature that shows up on your map for example five six and seven dollars. You also ring the bell of this particular lime and realize that somebody is harassing you intentionally. Has anyone experienced this?
@YourDriverMike
@YourDriverMike 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, how do you know that someone is harassing you intentionally? I have had this happen where I go to harvest a lime and it disappears. Could be an app issue or someone harvested it just before you arrived and the map refreshed while you were on your way.

How not to charge your scooters... dont use power strips on extensions. Extensions arent made to handle all the amps/watts. Buy instead a strip with a long cord.
@YourDriverMike
@YourDriverMike 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Remy, there's no way for me to directly run a power strip to an outlet in the garage due to space. Haven't had any issues running a 20ft outdoor extension cord to my power strip and charging that way.

@@YourDriverMike the reason your scooters are taking so long to charge is because they are starving for power, if you spread them out over several circuits they will charge a little faster

@@kclaptraffic what if u buy a 12 gauge Ridgid extension cord? I heard the thicker the cord the more it can handle?
@ghz24
@ghz24 2 жыл бұрын
@@kclaptraffic Na do the math the battery can take less than 200 watts 7 svootets at 200 watts is 1400 watts,well within the 1500 watt limit on a standard circuit. That's assuming the chargers are 200 watt which they definitely not. More like 80-100 watt chargers from the look of them, that would be minimum of 12 even with the drop from a 20 foot extension cord. Get a 12 gauge extension cord you'll be fine for at least 12. Too many being plugged in would blow the house fuse not slow the charge.

Hey Mike, I'd like to connect with some Juicers in Newport Beach California--what's the best way to connect with Juicer/Harvesters? A few people doing this have an infrastructure I'd be happy to pay to participate in my beta test for eMobility applications.

I own a similar electric scooter and I figured the cost of electricity for a full 5 hour charge only costs about 7 cents. My charger pulls only 80 watts.

Many thanks for your help, another quick question, what about liability on this deal with Lime, as a Juicer, are we liable for theft, fire, unwilful damage, etc... so for anything that might happen to the scooters, will the juicer be held liable and will have to pay for the missing, lost scooters?

Can you please tell me what you think about this... I'm planning to leave the scooters charging inside my van, of course there's the risk of fire I suppose which still might not be as high of a risk but still risk is risk anyway. Which is why I'm considering my Van isn't that highly valuable and if anything ever happens to it I'll just take ownership of my losses... anyway what's your opinion please?
@YourDriverMike
@YourDriverMike 5 жыл бұрын
Would this be while you're harvesting/driving? If so as long as you appropriately manage the electrical demands (i.e. wattage needed to charge scooters vs the van's battery etc) I see no problem with it. I agree with you, I don't anticipate fire being a high risk as long as power management is done right AND these aren't left charging in the van without temperature regulation. What I mean by that is ensuring the van is not over heating in the sun/having the AC on if needed. Note this would be an atypical charging setup and you most likely assuming all risk to the scooters etc if doing this. Also note that this is not meant to be legal advice nor am I an expert on electrical requirements.

Hi Sleeping Elephant, really appreciate the sign up thank you! Honestly if there's a scooter available, it's not damaged and it scans in I'll take it. Actually haven't found any that smell unbearable or anything. I would recommend gloves though as they are pretty dirty sometimes. If you don't serve your scooters by 7AM (protip there's actually a grace period here) you'll receive 1/2 pay.
