I can think of other islands in New York waters that are closed to visitors---Hart Island (the city's Potter's Field), Shooters lsland (a ship graveyard), Hoffman and Swinburne Islands (former quarantine stations), and Mill Rock just off the top of my head. I like the idea of keeping the islands off limits so the wildlife can have a few places for themselves and their offspring. Its bad enoug that plastics will wash up on them. The only interference by humans should be cleaning the plastic away, and only by a few at a time.

I can add one.Partridge Island in the harbour of Saint John,N.B.It is totally off limits to anyone,except the Coast Guard,due to a "biohazard"? I have been there.Up until the late 70s there were lighthouse keepers living in a house that is still there.The lady I approached was not friendly and told me to leave.You go inside it now and it looks like they just left.The island was used in the 1800s as a quarantine for those coming to Canada,that had diseases.There are folks who died and are buried on it.The original hospital is still there along with a marker dedicated to those that came and perished there.They were going to open up the island to tourists in the 90s, but something happened and they decided to close it off for good.Getting to the island is not for those faint of heart .There is a long spit of giant rocks to tackle,then a treacherous climb up slippery rock to the top and through fencing.

lets see ... if 10+ million people get to go see an island that was off limits, and the few that always ruin it for everyone damage it beyond repair, then at least 10+ million more people got to see and enjoy it than under the present management. id say thats a win for humanity. y'all want to save it for ... for who? are the possible people of the future more entitled or deserving than we? id like to think that yellowstone and yosemite and the grand canyon are still doing well after the hundreds of millions that have been there. id say its a 'more holier than thou' power trip to prevent visitation
@joe-mi3fh6 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's about preserving it for "future humans". Its just about preserving it in general. Humans do not own this planet. Life is bigger than the human race. Life existed way before us and will exist way after. If we don't destroy the planet, which we are.
@boedude84966 жыл бұрын
if you come from an atheist (or whatever) point of view then I might agree with you to a point. those who believe in the divine creation of the earth have a very different view of the purpose of the earth. I believe we are stewards of the earth and should not deliberately destroy it, but it is ours to serve our needs and wants (to a point). change is not synonymous with destroy or even damage. that is evident by its constant natural change, temperature wise and plant/animal wise. more plants and animals have existed and become extinct than exist today

Are all atheists angry, butthurt and needy for attention? Or is it just the ones on KZbin? They need Jesus.
