A Self Sustaining Ecosphere With Insane Biodiversity!
Ecospheres are fascinating closed ecosystems that are full of life. I’d always wanted to make one so I enlisted the help of my friend and ecosphere fanatic, Lucas, and we created a super cool self sustaining ecosphere!

I make biospheres here in Singapore. I use water and media etc from the ponds in the botanic gardens. My retirement hobby!😊😊

This animal list is full of really good picks! Snails are vital to keeping an ecosphere clean and healthy! Amphipods are energetic and bioactive, breaking down larger items very effectively! Daphnia are powerful filter feeders, keeping hte water column pure! Flat worms River limpets are known for getting the really tough kinds of algae and biofilm that other snails sometimes can't!

3:15 as someone who does mostly chemistry, i can tell you, never turn a ground glass joint without grease! always just lift it up, youre risking seizing it every time, and once its seazed, especially if it isnt boro glass, its really really hard to get out.

I'm late to the party, but I've always wondered what would happen if plants from the local pond or creek were mixed in with some store bought plants. Would be interesting to see if one dominated the other or if they could coexist easily.

many plants used in indoor aquariums are tropical or subtropical and thus are more likely to thrive at room temperature than native cold tolerant plants however it really depends on the plants there are slow and fast growing plants stem plants, floaters and epiphytes

i think that grass-like aquatic plant is vallisnera Nana, as some vallisnera at their juvenile stage looks similar to the smaller varieties, therefore sometimes people mistaken them as other varieties of vallisnera.

Nice - really enjoyed watching this 👍 Apologies if the following is a dumb question, I know nothing about ecospheres! Do you have to do anything to prevent hypoxia with the lack of air/gas exchange or is the photosynthesis enough (if so, cool!)?

The water plants would take carbon dioxide from the water and convert it to oxygen. There is no exceptionally large animals so oxygen use is small.

Big fan of this page. Just recently got into the idea of creating a terrarium and I have a question for you: would asparagus ferns survive in a terrarium with an open top? Or do they need a more humid environment than that?
@09amlenz
@09amlenz Жыл бұрын
You can plant asparagus ferns in just regular soil and a pot so an open terrarium should be just fine.
