Here in Canada, they have wasted efforts "informing" that victims aren't to blame for crimes commited against them when of course that wasn't the problem in the first place. @@goblin-night Victim blaming is part of the problem in some cases, especially with children, abusive parents are often given slaps on the wrist because "the children need discipline" for too many parents means violence and neglect and courts look the other way.

As soon as he broke the bail condition not to contact her he should have been locked up. The fact that that he was able to repeatedly break that bail condition with no action taken is atrocious. It led to death. I would have expected individual officers to have been reprimanded for failing to communicate and take appropriate action. It seems the police systems were so poor they couldn’t even deem that officers had failed to use the systems properly. Terrible.

@@toldyaso13 Yeah, that's just shitty training. I worked for over a decade as a 911 dispatcher in Canada. We used the same NAED system they use in England and it's extremely good. The #1 thing we're told is to never EVER tell someone to calm down. We're trained and certified on a specific course on how to de-escalate someone who's not panicking. We're not even allowed on the lines non-tandem/without a training until we exceed at it. This 911 dispatcher needs to be fired.

However stalking, DFV and murder are overwhelming committed by men against women. To many lives are lost ti men who for what ever reasons feel they are entitled to act out on other people. More needs to be done to protect women and also to help men. Mental health for men is obviously an issue that needs to be addressed. Yes women suffer with mental health issues to however women are more likely to seek help or turn in themselves. Men do not seek help and lash out. This is all based on statistics. So when I see comments like yours it really does prove how far we have to go to address GBV in our society. Don’t get defensive get proactive. This will help everyone

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but police and laws still do not take stalkers seriously to this day. You can even find a few people on youtube that post *daily* videos of their neighbors stalking them, and nothing substantial is done even with all of that evidence. If that doesn't get them arrested, what would? The cops just don't care. They just don't. It sucks majorly, spoken as a victim of stalking myself.

This is so gross, and I can easily imagine how the police were talking about these "hysterical women" who were constantly calling and bothering them. All countries really need to start using reverse violence alarms in cases where a restraining order has been broken. For those reading it who doesn't know what a reverse violence alarm is, it's electronic monitoring by police that alerts them if the stalker goes where they're not allowed to go, for instance the victim's house, work, school or anywhere else the stalker isn't allowed to visit. Think ankle monitor that goes off when they enter an area instead of leaving an area. My country is working on it, but it's taking too long.

Find things that you are proud of. Your intelligence, your beauty whether external or internal, your kindness, loyalty… anything and everything good that you can think of. And after awhile, you will find that your life is better, because you truthfully think and feel that it is better. And build on that. There's not much police can do if the legal system declines to pursue charges. Even when they're brought the sentences are a joke. In some cases they only serve to make the abuser more angry/aggressive. It's the system and laws that need to change.

If you look up the statistics, I believe a significant percentage of DV perpetrators are current or former police officers - and that's just what's reported. You'll find cases where someone was trying to get away from their abusive cop boyfriend, but the rest of the squad has that cop's back and just wants to enable them - and that's just the cases that are found out about. The process to become a cop and the system at large is catered to the violent and the power-hungry. I had a very similar experience with my ex. Drugs and feeling very much like the victim when I tried to move on. Thankfully I had a great police force and Woman’s Aid made sure they kept pushing. They installed locks and markers on the house, but my ex even accused the police force of sleeping with me so a whole corruption investigation had to take place, I wasn’t of course. He vandalised my car, left dead birds on the doorstep, sent threatening messages, and spouted derogatory posts on social media. It was awful. Time in prison sorted him out plus a non harressment order. I cried at what this family went through, absolutely horrific.

I know I’ll be taking my SA to the grave, rather than report it. I have absolutely no faith in the police. They don’t take victims seriously and nothing will ever change. I might aswell just keep my mouth shut and bury it deep down. When he found my facebook and tried to contact me I moved cities, completely changed my image just in case there’s chance I’ll ever bump into them. Wow. Those calls were harrowing! As an Italian living in the U.K. I have observed people be way too polite to each other, when in fact, the situation is serious. The police here were a shit show and the calls were handled like a mere sales transaction. No way would the police be telling me that they didn’t have enough officers to go to my mother’a house when my child was also present, when a deranged man was threatening to kill them. Just wow.

One boyfriend I had eventually started to get abusive, and in of those moments of him being verbally abusive he actually blamed my mother and I was so shocked because she was never present and always accepting and welcoming of him. It scared me because there was literally no reason for him to feel or say these things about my mum.
