I've got the 16, 24, 35, 50, 85 100 macro & the 135 Samyang cine lenses. All I can say is for their prices they are fantastic value for money. No lens is perfect but on the project I'm doing at the moment they are the difference from just video to cine quality. Highly recommended. And thanks for a beautiful video of The Barn.
@dw.in.michigan2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a videographer or cinematographer. I do primarily nighttime photography. I've experienced excellent results with my cine lenses. I won't lie. I started buying them because of incredible deals being offered for brand new - $215 for 24mm and $180 for 35mm a year ago. But I loved the results so much that I bought an 8mm for $85 last fall, and just now an 85mm for $165 (in spite of already having a regular 85mm). I've read a few reviews that claim they are sharper than their regular photographic counterparts, a couple of which were from other astrophotographers. Its all too normal toseek validation for your choices. I don't know how true that claim is, but the longer focus throw that is spoken of in this review might explain why the images from the cine lenses are sharper. With a shorter focus throw, going from focus to out of focus happens more quickly, whereas a longer focus throw gives you a more generous "sweet spot", and since these lenses (both cine and regular) are manual focus only, that feature is a particular advantage. At least, that's MY theory. It would explain why people get sharper images from cine lenses, if their design and engineering truly is identical to the regular lenses (minus the modifications for a follow focus system). I have yet to see a rigorous professional review of a Samyang/Rokinon cine lens vs its regular counterpart. If anyone knows of any such reviews, please let me know. Maybe I'll do one myself, since at this moment I have both iterations of the 85mm lens, even though I'm not a professional.

I've been shoving info into my head now for a couple of weeks, figuring out what body I want and can afford, the lens, and the options. Well, I got a mint XM1 in the mail today. I mean mint. $150 smackers. I grabbed a very inexpensive 16-50 mm to start with. But now, I'm thinking outside the box. The advantage of using a full frame lens on an APSC sensor is that most lenses have less sharpness in the edges. Those edges get cropped out, leaving you with the best part of the lens covering the sensor. Makes me wonder why Fuji doesn't make lenses that at least overlap the APSC sensor a little bit, to improve the overall sharpness, and obviously get a better response from critics and users. Imagine a test on a Fuji lens using a chart and seeing no fall off at all. Which brings me to this Rokinon cine DS. I'd like to use it on my Fuji body. Would I rather have the back of the lens changed to mount on my body instead of adding distance with an adaptor? Yes. But what do you think of me using it, adaptor or altered on the X body? Thanks for any help, and I definitely not be aiming that lens at my weathered dinged mug....
