This is the yard of a friend's house in Nevada. This is where I got various opuntia cuttings which I featured in one of my earlier videos, link below:
Planting Various Opuntia Cuttings (Tips on Potting up Cactus) - • Tips on Potting a Cact...
I hope this gives people an idea of how to do a simple desert landscape in their backyard. All these cacti and other desert plants are exposed to the harsh desert environment of excessive heat during the summer and freezing cold during the winter.

Hahaha. I got hooked a couple of times. But I figured as long as I keep them small in my garden, it should be fine. Opuntia glochids are still worse. 😄 Thanks and cheers from Las Vegas to Arizona!

Cacti Mania, haha. It would be hard to take cuttings from the ocotillo as they are tall! One thing with them, they don’t have leaves for most part of the year at least in our weather. But they are very tough plants. Thank you for watching! ☺️

Hi Ana, what a wonderful desert garden.😍😍😃 Your friend is truly lucky, he doesn't have to do any landscaping or planting anymore. The cacti are all really matured and blooming. That barrel cactus has to be at least 10 yrs old as it's already flowering. Same goes for the other cacti. Image how much you have to pay for plants that size and age. There's even top dressing OMG the previous owner must have been an even greater cacti lover than us LOL 😅😅 You have so many free cuttings now, Ana! Lucky you!
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine 5 жыл бұрын
You are correct Molly, I noticed there were small cuttings that were stuck in the ground. So the previous owner was really into cactus! The cacti are all mature, too and well trimmed and shaped.

Quick question, I’m landscaping a Mexican desert type in my garden, I’m testing watering conditions of my cactus and suculentas, getting experience in ponds, in the meantime I’m collecting big rocks and river pebbles. My problem: grass, grows everywhere, how do you deal with it without damaging cactus or suculentas? Nice videos. Subscribed.

Where I live at 4,000 ft. in the California high desert, we get freezing temperatures every winter and a few snows per year. I have those cow's tongue cactus and several different types of opuntia and they make it through winter fine. I also have a cholla that does fine. I think in your area the big challenge would be the humidity, not the cold. Where I live it's very low humidity. Good luck!
