As a very broke grad student during clinical rotation, I made due with 4 dress shirts and 4 pairs of trousers all from Goodwill. My shoes were my dad's old Florsheim oxfords in brown and black. I got way more compliments then on my clothes than in my more spendy and trendy days.
@pizzlerot2730
@pizzlerot2730 Жыл бұрын
I did the same during college and grad school. There are some looks that just never go out of style and will very frequently get compliments if done correctly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with secondhand, either! (Unless it's Goodwill. Screw Goodwill.) Just follow some basic rules, mainly that clothes should be clean and in good shape (no holes, stains, or fraying/thinning, nothing missing); be neat/straight (no wrinkles, nice creases if applicable); and be matching, or at least not clashing (there are plenty of websites about men's fashion with basic rules for this). And last but not least, *they should fit!* - not baggy, and not snug; they should compliment your body, not hide it and not reveal it! If you have a particular body shape that makes this part a little tricky, go ahead and put the extra effort into finding something that works for you, and just take good care of those clothes; it's absolutely worth it (I've been there myself), as the fit of a guy's clothes typically make a big impression on others that you meet, especially in professional and romantic settings. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from a sartorial savant, but that's exactly why I had to teach myself these things in college, so that I could present myself to the world on my terms, and the difference really was immediate. So for any guys out there reading this who have struggled with this topic before, trust me when I say that it's really not hard to learn the basics, and dressing better is probably the quickest and easiest way to get a massive self-esteem (and attractiveness) boost 👍 PS - OP, sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread, this just kinda evolved into some basic advice for any guys out there struggling with this subject like I did in college

Yes! My grandfather had his own law firm and wore Florsheim shoes to work; he would keep his pairs looking good for decades, always had them on shoe trees and properly polished when he wasn’t wearing them. When the soles wore out he would get them resoled. Classic leather shoes can last forever, with visits to the cobbler and proper care… people don’t know how to do that anymore.

Dressing for career success totally depends on context and industry. His looks are sharp but as someone who works in tech, wearing a sport jacket to work would be way too dressed up when all of my colleagues are wearing T-Shirts and hoodies.

Very Nice. The world today is very much thankful to the one who deduced the male outfits to just a shirt and the trousers , no wonder it's a universal formula , think for a moment what was called as clothes for daily use some 200 or 300 years back with the hair wigs on one's head. Thank you so much.

@@ZdamanetaNot necessarily. My office work wardrobe was wash and wear, never dry clean (except of course for jackets.) A nicely ironed shirt looks sharp when the occasion calls for it. If you keep your colors agreeable you can mix and match more looks. Shop for sales, just don't wear polyester! Lol!

Men have the same styled jacket/shirt/pant options for a billion years. Compared to women’s that radically change the shape/style of their clothing to make completely unique sets. Ours is always some sort of Tshirt/Polo/Button up.

This is fantastic and well done, some of the best style advice I've seen done in a short recently. However, I'd throw in not to be afraid to throw in a little personal flair - so long as it is tempered to the occasion. If you wear western boots, don't wear ostriches to a funeral - wear plain, black boots with no stitching and a quiet sole. If you like hook clasp buckles, don't wear your showiest one for a business meeting. Black jeans work just as well as blue jeans if it fits your style and aesthetic - you just have to choose your shirt colors to suit it. I live in the south, where it's often warmer, so I tend to choose a nice vest over a full jacket unless it's a coat and tie event - again just have to pick the fit and style to suit the occasion.

I got to meet Terry Pratchett a couple of times after his diagnosis. His is definitely the celebrity death which has hit me hardest, as I have spent so much time in his worlds, but Sean Lock was also a genius in his own way, and I do miss him so. I get this video. I cried when Terry died, even though we all knew it was coming.
