I'm 5'7" 68kgs and the rule of 1/3s works well That's led me to preferring high waist trousers. They are so comfortable (not tight around the crotch like most European-cut off the rack trousers) I live im Vietnam and recently had some clothes made in Hoi An. Fast, resonable quality and cheap

As a 6'3" fellow club member, the reality is that we are an unusual breed and therefore widely misunderstood by many style channels. In fact, anyone in the 6'3 - 6'7" bracket has very different proportions to someone that is 5'8" - 5'10". One has to also be mindful of one's build - you could be a lanky 6'7" athlete or a 6'3" hardass like Alan Ritchson of Amazon's Reacher fame.

You know, as a tall guy who also works out (and has a rather wide frame naturally) the two biggest issues by far is even finding trousers that fit around my quads (most trousers don't have huge diameter legs) and over the shoulders (if it's wide enough over the shoulders it'll be like I'm wearing a 5-man tent most of the time, if it's too tight over the shoulders it restricts mobility and looks really weird). Doesn't help that proportionally I'm all torso no legs, a genetic freak if you will (not in the good way).

What!? He gave many useful tips, dress, according to your height and body type, limb length, etc. - try to balance out your body by choosing the right clothing that will make you closer to the Adonis proportion equation - be aware if you are really tall or short your head size will likely be out of proportion, which you can adjust through broadening your shoulders, or wearing a hat or adjusting hairstyle.. these are just some tips I remember on the top of my mind. If you think nothing of value was mentioned you probably were not paying attention.

I'm also 5'10" and 150-155lbs (depending on the day). My wife's always jealous of the fact that everything always just fits perfectly for me right off the rack, and my shoe size is always in stock. (I'm a US size 10.) Seems like as a guy, having 1's, 5's, and 0's in all my measurements makes stuff easy. I’m only 5’3 and it’s a fucking struggle. I have to try on everything, and embarrassed to say the mens pants even at the smallest size are too big for me. If I buy online I have to pray it fits or return it. I swear if I ever get rich i’m getting custom clothes made for me .

Great video Antonio. I'm glad you mentioned about the ratio of torso to legs and the need to fit your clothing to your specific body. I'm just over 5' 11" and my younger brother is a little over 5' 9" so I'm taller than him standing up. When we sit down next to each other though, he's about two inches taller than me. He takes after his dad and has a much larger torso than I do while I actually have somewhat disproportionately long legs for my height. It became an issue when he was in between cars and had to borrow mine to go to work as we'd constantly be having to adjust the seat for height and distance whenever the other used it. Our difference in proportions is very noticeable when it comes to clothes. We both have about the same waist, but his pants have to be significantly shorter than mine. Fortunately, our mom is a seamstress so we've always had well tailored clothing despite growing up relatively poor, and it's actually been noticed. I remember back in high school a guy in my class told me laughingly that his gf had told him she thought I was rich because all my clothes seemed to be custom tailored. In reality, though much of what I wore really was custom made, some pieces had been made from leftover scraps my mom had rescued from work. Well fitted clothing really does stand out.

You mentioned Bangkok. If you go there, be vigilant about how you describe your needs. I had a bad experience, really a wasted trip, because I didn't stress enough that I wanted natural shoulders, and I ended up with built-up shoulders, such that I don't ever wear them.

5:53 so accurate. I’m 5’9”, 41in chest and 31in waist. I actually do get custom suits but people don’t believe I usually buy size L or even XL sometimes off the rack. I do tuck my shirts in fyi. Vanity sizing is real, if it’s a vintage item or made before 2000’s I’m a true medium

I purchased a Peter Manning Red & White Gingham long sleeve shirt a while back and it still looks as it did when I got it, the material is top quality so investing in their clothes is well worth it.

I'm well above average height, with very long legs. A way I have found to de-emphasize my leg length is to go with cuffed pants (I usually get mine from Banana Republic or Bill's Khakis). Cuffs break the length of the leg up into segments, which reduces the overall apparent length of my legs, but the important thing is to go with taller cuffs than the standard 1-1/2". I go with 1-7/8", and that seems to be the perfect cuff height for me.

I know all my sizes perfectly. I'm 5ft 5. Shirts 15" neck 39 chest, 32"arm/length. Jeans 31" waist 29" legs. Unfortunately some brands idea of what a 31" waist is amazes me. In the UK S is 30" inch leg, Regular is 32" and long is 34". It;s trial and error of which brands suit you best, I tend to stick with Ben Sherman, Farah, Common people, Charles Thywhitt, Lee and Levi

In UK the problem is the rise on the trousers. Low fitting is ok on slim younger guys, but over a certain age and waist size, and with a fuller bum, the trouser dont go up high enough, particularly at the back, so they feel like they're slipping down all the time.

I´m 6´3 and usually I can find clothes off the rack, but sometimes I have a problem with shirts they´re either too shoprt or too baggy. I found that the Tommy Hilfiger Slim Fit Polos fit me perfectly.

I'm 5'8"/9 but not a big guy. It's not all about height as I'm very slim and that also makes things difficult. As you point out, it's things like leg length/arm length and chest etc that matter. I generally operate at the smaller end of the size scale and I find with dress shirts it can be tricky sometimes. There are a lot of guys who struggle more than me though.

I feel you, man. 6`2 185 lbs, L size tshirts are too baggy while good length wise, M size is great but often too short for my torso. I need to look for fullsized slim M's which are pretty hard to find. Mostly buy L's and ask a tailor to narrow them down.

I'm about 6 flat with a larger and beefier frame, so I usually go for form fitting clothes and darker colors to slim my waist up a bit. Also I know this is a height video, but a good tip for my other beef cake brothers out there, wear darker form fitting clothes! If your rounder than maybe not but if you're like me and can get away with looking buff, I'd lean into that and for some reason darker clothes help!

Shawl is by far my favorite sweater style. I must have like 4-5 of them in sweater and cardigan styles. I'm 6'3" ish / 220 lbs, and for sure am cognizant of everything I wear, especially with long skinny legs. The worst part about being a bigger dude though, is the lack of shoe options. I wear 13W-13.5, sometimes 14. Wide feet. Many cool shoe options stop at 12 or 13 and for some reason, shoes just feel way more narrow nowadays than they should. For regular and dress shirts, jackets, and pants, probably 75% of my closet has been tailored. Having something fit your specific body type and walking out of the house looking trim just feels good. And I'm certain nearly everyone in your sphere notices that you always look on point. A properly fitted tshirt and crisp jeans can set it off too. Some things I own have been tailored more than once through the years and I get more dad weight/muscle. Glad stations like this exist. Btw, it's "all of a sudden"....anyway, Semper Fi!

5’5”, 165 lbs currently (muscular) with 16+ yrs as a PMC (Private Military Contractor). I have never been too informed on fashion, I admit, but I’ve learned the value of dressing well and have begun to avoid baggy clothing unless I am just chillin at home. Slacks that fit well and don’t have a crotch line that falls too low is one of those hard learned lessons lol! I now generally avoid t-shirts when going out (wear ‘em at home) and stick to dress shirts of varying fabric depending on weather. So, a more casual dress style, I suppose! Also I avoid flashy graphics on clothes, and stick to solid colours. Same deal with shoes, I typically go with something subdued, though I would like to maybe buy more shoes that look “dressy” but for casual wear. I hope all the hot (war) zones I’ve been in have not made me shrink any further, else all my wardrobe will be for nothing! Imagine not being able to find a wife, ‘cause she can’t see me…LOL 😅

@@Prometheus7272 The field today as of 2024 is actually far different than it was when I entered it in 2004 while working on an IT contract at the Pentagon (for AFPCA - Air Force Pentagon Communications Agency via Lockheed Martin and its main subcontractor, whom employed me). Back then literally anyone with or without experience were easily able to get into these companies and even into roles that were well above their experience and skill level. I've heard of guys who became Team Leads for security teams that had ZERO experience and training - and in the majority of cases - ended badly for them, even with loss of lives. Some companies will take individuals that are healthy and physically fit, and offer training courses (as I went through) and you don't necessarily have to have any formal training or experience in the military and/or law enforcement. By and large though, most of the guys entering this industry do have those experiences. I would suggest, so long as you're relatively fit and healthy, medically, you could apply to most of these companies. Some are more stringent in who they hire, but most tend to operate in a security role - very rare for a PMC to function in an actual military capacity, unlike the one I work for which had its start as being built from covert spec. ops military teams from S. Africa. In short: Find some in your country, I believe most have websites you could apply directly on! If you do have some experience with the use of firearms, that's always a plus to state, otherwise many do offer training programs as part of the employment process. Again, most companies deal in the Security role and not military - at least in a public. Security roles aren't bad either, its good work, honest work even. Your clients may not always be good or honest, but its not any different than working any other job. You'll have good people you interact with and bad ones. Also: NO Spec. Ops experience is necessary, never has been. Its considered a major bonus of course, but not a direct requirement that I've seen any PMC state openly. I should add at the end here that there are numerous jobs as well that could range anywhere from Accounting to IT jobs with these companies. It goes without saying that you ought to let your interviewer know what it is you want out of the job so they could figure something out. Best of luck to you in your endeavors! :)

In a store there might be the right sleeve length, but always too short so constantly coming untucked. But with pants, standard sizes are fine, I guess longer torso to legs. Good advice in this vid.

I've figured out some of this through trial and error. You shouldn't wear raglans unless you have big shoulders, for example. I'm a bit shorter and have discovered that leaving the shirt untucked only works if it's had a tailor shorten up the hem. You don't want it to look like you're halfway to a mandress. Thin up the hairstyle to give yourself a smaller head, that's totally sound. Additional: layering button-down shirts looks good, and if your arms have some tone, roll up the sleeves. If you wear a puffer jacket, definitely get one with smaller segments instead of big, blocky squares. And while I don't always love the company, Levi's makes the best looking jeans, as the crotch runs higher and they drape better, get 511s. Recently, I picked up a Members Only jacket at a vintage shop for a 1980's Halloween costume, and now I wear it regularly. Damn the flashback style, that thing looks correct, just tuck in your shirt under it and let the waist be narrow, that and the epaulettes working up the shoulders... there's a reason they sold, you just have to own the look and you're good. Short is a handicap, don't let anyone lie to you, but also, don't let anyone lie to you and say you can't maximize what you've got. Looking like you care helps.

I don’t quite know my ratios yet but clothing has been tough for me. I’m 5’11 with a 36 - 32 pant. Generally XL fit until I wash them and they shrink on me and they get short! I’ve gotten stronger physically which has helped as my shoulders are now bigger than my hips. That was a problem before because I’ve got a large base. Big legs. Big butt big hips. I use to wear 40s without my upper body being built. Looked terrible. I feel a 31” inseam would be perfect. But struggling finding good shirts. I’ve been told I have a short torso, but if that’s the case why are all these shirts short on me?? Anyone know how calculate the ratios?? I’d love to know.

5'7, somewhat athletic here. As said in the video, learn what brands sell casual stuff (polos, jeans etc) off the rack that fits and buy them almost exclusively - for me, that's fresh clean threads and the perfect jean. At most, I have sleeves to hem. For tailored jackets/outerwear, if you know your key measurements, you can get super high quality stuff used with only minimal tailoring needed. Just get the shoulders and length right. You'll be replacing your jeans and polos periodically any way, but a great topcoat or suit will last forever, so invest a bit more here (along with resolable shoes). Unless you're very long torsoed and short, a 2 button suit will elongate your height vs 3. And for short guys, err slightly on the side of trim/fitted without going into the 2010s James Bond suit fit. Extreme fits won't age well.

Great advice here about being aware... I'm 6'2", I can't tell you how many shirts I have that are too small in the collar, too short in the sleeve, or too tight across the shoulders, because I didn't understand how to consider those things in my purchase... They felt all right when I bought them. After about 2 hours of wearing them, I never wanted to wear them again. Wish I'd known this stuff a long time ago.

Could you do a video on how to teach yourself what good fasion at a base level looks like? One problem I have is I have two modes, either A. shirt and shorts or B. full suit and tie, with nothing in between. I am aware when I do go out that I tend to look basic compared to other people unless it's something like a wedding Another issue is I can't do big picture, I think "this shirt looks good, these pants look good, this jumper looks good, therefore all three together must look good". I wonder at times does that mindset make me look off to other people?

i have that second issue as well… i always think this shirt will work with those pants until i put it all on and stand in front of a mirror. it gets really annoying cause i can’t tell if something will look good until i actually try it on and i end up having to change more than once before i feel good about my fit the only helpful advice i have for that is that it’s usually only a noticeable issue when it comes to newer stuff that i haven’t figured out a look for yet, like ik my new balance 574 works with most shorts but wearing them with pants can be weird cause of how round the toecap is. basically once you have a mental catalog of good fits you’ve worn before you can just use one of those and save time without having to think about it too much

So, one might say that I do not need to worry about this now. However, I still want to be even more stylish now that I have a better idea about what that means. I am 6ft /165 pounds with an 30/31inch waist and 31 to 32 inch long legs. I fit in jackets/coats, sweaters and t-shirts in size medium really often extremely well. But shopping for pants is a nightmare, as the rest of my lower body just isn't proportional my 30/31inch waist: I got really slim ankles (like size 27-29) not the biggest calves (Like size 29-30) yet I have slightly stronger quads that don't fit well in really skinny jeans (equivalent to size 31-32). And on top of that my gluteus maximus is not the biggest as well (size 29-30), I am ALWAYS in between sizes and never find a really good fitting pant - either it will be too tight on my waist and quads or it will be comfortable on the quads but too wide at the waist and butt so I can't wear ir without a belt 😂

I'm 54, 6'-1" and weigh 240 pounds - athletic frame - and I also have a masters degree. People always mistake me for either a cop or a mobster. I'm trying to find the right balance with my clothes. This has always been challenging for me. I'm average height but that's the only thing average. I have a very large head, wide neck, wide shoulders, wide hips, long torso, and wide legs. "Normal" cuts make me look like a human box, a guy whose clothes are too small/tight, or if I go up in size I look like a child wearing his dads clothes. When you have weird proportions it takes longer to find what works, and you have to try everything on, and preferably have people you trust go with you to get other objective opinions. When anything you do will emphasize one of your extreme traits, go with the ones that emphasize the more preferable extremes, like wider shoulders instead of a long torso/ bigger head. Going with no tie with 2-3 open buttons on my shirt, double breasted coats that are cut for wide shoulders but tighten in the torso (but not too much), dark suits, no whites or grays. All of these help me look more proportional, except that I still look quite wide but that's ok because I just am lol. Pants are always very difficult because I need a good middle ground to make them look longer without being too tight or too high so I often have to get them hemmed.

The head size is very interesting. I'm 6 foot 1 with an somewhat larger than usual head - although I also have broad shoulders. Short cropped hair is the order of the day. With a short cut (military style) I look like a doorman at a bar - kind of a hard nut. If I let my hair grow long I look like a baby face. Short hair in perpetuity it is.

Im 5'8, but the problem is that i have longer legs compared to my torso. Great for running but very difficult to find pants that fit both my waist, and my legs. On top of that, I've been a football (soccer) player since I was 5. My legs are overdeveloped because of it and the circumference of my legs is bigger than average, nice when it comes to physique, a nightmare to find fitting pants for a price that i can actually afford. I think sizes of clothes in general are just totally non-standardized. I don't understand why I can't just have a size that universally works. You know XL means XL in all brands. But no, I could be a large through 2XL on shirts and they all feel the same. I'm 5'11 but the biggest problem with my clothes is the torso is never long enough. I raise my arms and it becomes a belly button shirt cause it lifts so high. I have to shop big and tall usually just to get shirts that are comfortably long enough to not do that. But then the B&T stuff usually have huge comically big collars. I don't have a 22 inch neck that is 12" inches tall, but apparently B&T shoppers do I guess. What this world needs is a better measuring system isn't just generic "XL" as if that covers everything from shoulders to length to neck to sleeves etc. We need measuring that tells us all the number so we can accurately shop for ourselves. Good luck shopping for clothes on the internet, no size really means what it means, but we would be shipping back fewer clothes if we could just shop by real numbers.
