Another stupid thing is that Rey entirely ignores Leia's last words to her, 'don't be afraid of who you are,' As at the end of the rise of Skywalker she says that she is 'Rey Skywalker' when she could have admitted her true name instead of being afraid and accept it. As lazy as JJ's writing was at least he still had some modicum of respect for the source material in awakens. Ryan rightfully takes most of the blame, he just shit all over an entire franchise. Tbh tho, I expect that the directors had very little leeway in reality... Same for me. As a child and teen I read most of the extended universe books (now: Legends) and it was a massive slap in the face, when I heard that all that stories are gonna be trash from now on. Then I was like "well, at least we will see our heros reunited..." and it is not just new characters like the first Jurassic World. I vividly remember that I was deeply confused in the cinema when Han got killed off. I actually expected him to die beforehand, but I was like "wait, what? not yet...they haven't met Luke yet"

jj abrahms and the other writers are also responsible. kathleen managed the project but the duty of writing and planning falls on writers if they were giving them the ability to write the story they wanted. the two biggest mistakes were not planning all three movies at the same time they wrote the first one, and giving creative control to a different director for the second movie instead of having one creative vision leading the project.

I get the sentiment, but having character be static isn't a good idea either. I loved the idea of Luke having doubts and needing to work through those doubts, problem is that it was simply used as an excuse as to why Luke couldn't solve all the problems and then left at that. Sure, Luke wouldn't try to assassinate his apprentice, but Kylo could very well have fallen anyway which could have sent Luke spinning. Such a storyline would have been awesome. Likewise Han falling back into his old ways is a cool side-story to explore and work through, but that didn't happen either :( I will however agree that the return of Palpatine was the biggest ever "fuck you" aimed at the franchise and its fans... Maybe a Sith spirit Palpatine could work, but having him return like that just messes up the whole arc of Anakin yes...

To be fair. Anakin was also a desert dweller strong in the force that had a master that was killed at the end. The difference is, these similarities meant something to the overall story. It was an intentional mirroring of the characters and added depth to the saga. I’ve never had such a bitter taste at the end of a movie like when I finished watching The Rise of Skywalker. I remembered that everyone around me at the cinema were looking down in disappointment and complaining. I started to talk with some dude next to me about how everything didn’t make any sense. When I first watched VII and saw Finn ignite the lightsaber, I was literally OVERJOYED! Because a concept of a stormtrooper becoming one with the force is really rare. But then Rey stepped up, and emphasized that she is meant to be jedi, I was like, "Nah Fam. Give Finn back his laser-sword!" I'm done with the "a poor person becoming a Jedi thing. Make a unique one for Chr*st's Sake!"

This is where you see a fundamental difference in quality between something like the MCU and the sequels. Meticulous, big picture planning went into each subsequent film in the avengers series. It had a strong point of reference with the infinity stones. This was 10+ films that flowed together almost flawlessly.. the sequels couldn’t even tie in 3 together. Wasted opportunity indeed.

I once heard a wonderful analogy about how Kylo Ren’s helmet perfectly symbolizes the Sequel Trilogy. Episode VII: It’s something new, yet something similar, to Darth Vader’s own helmet: Much like how TFA is very similar yet somewhat different than ANH. Episode VIII: The helmet is shattered into pieces, to allow Kylo to distance himself from the “Vader wannabe” persona: This is like how Rian Johnson came in and shattered the direction of the previous film to do something entirely different. Something something something, subverting expectations. Episode IX: The helmet is pieced back together, giving Kylo Ren a similar appearance to TFA: Just like how they bright back JJ to do a half assed “course correction” and bring Palpatine back out of left field to, once again, make it like the OT

Something I don’t see people talking about is how empty the rebel cruisers fuel tanks were. Way before the haldo maneuver, it is stated that they only have enough fuel to use light speed once; fuel which they end up using to keep running, as well as fueling the escape shuttles

@@user-cx4gc5lh4b honestly I like the prequels more, I love anakins arc and its really awesome to see what darth vader was like before and how he changed into darth vader. I also like that we get so many unique fights, I know that they didnt have much to work with in the 70s and 80s, but the prequel fights are so much cooler, you get the maul fight, 2 dooku fights, general grevious fight, battle of geonosis, windu vs palpatine, yoda vs palpatine, and anakin vs obi. Nothing against any star wars movie though because each one has its own unique awesome quote, scene, character, etc... except for the sequels

In my fantasy, Lucas never sold Lucasfilm. Instead, he did his own Sequels. In my fantasy, he also played the same role in ALL his Star Wars films as he did in the Indiana Jones films. He co-wrote the story with someone else, and then let others write the script and direct. For the Prequels, Ron Howard, Robert Zemeckis, and Stephen Spielberg each directed one. And for the Sequels, Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Nolan, and Peter Jackson each directed.

@@mishynaofficial Not me. Unfortunately, I was already old and jaded. When Disney said they had 9 movies planned I saw the writing on the wall. They planned to milk the franchise dry. But maybe they would make something decent because they still want to make money. I wasn't excited, but I was cautiously optimistic. When I watched Force Awakens and I knew immediately they wouldn't make anything decent. They were going to nostalgia bait and offer nothing of substance. Rogue One was alright, I guess. But everyone seems to forget it exists. Then Last Jedi released, and I was just done. Haven't watched any Disney Star Wars since. I have the first 6 on DVD and that is all I will watch.

@@koloth5139 i was hopeful, but once I watched A New Hope remake - I'm sorry - The Force Awakens, I was done. Since then they went downhill. And I must say, the nostalgia baits are super distracting, I don't know should I follow the new characters or ponder the status quo of the old ones. Rogue One turned out the best, because they used very little of the OT characters, but that movie is still not great.

It’s a old Video though with Palpatine if i’m not mistaken even in Legends he comes back from the dead even more times. Since he produced many clones of himself so his force spirit can keep inhabiting new bodies when he dies. That is brought to a end though when he gets betrayed and someone destroys most clones leaving only one and then later on he had to take control of a newborn Solo’s body though fails and then they kept his Force spirit in a prison.

I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977 when A New Hope first hit theaters. I was 6 years old. In my opinion, the smart thing for Disney to do would have been to fund the movies while letting George Lucas have full control of making them. Then, Disney and Lucas split the profits.

One of my biggest problems was Rey she had no training whatsoever she just intuitively learned to fight with a light saber and use her force abilities. She is more powerful pretty much then all the other jedi put together is better in every way then all these jedi who spent half theyre lives or most of theyre lives training and learning from masters. and why can we ask? because disney is woke and she is a woman if i were george lucas id be giving them a peace of my mind for RUINING my lifes work basically a masterpiece that could only be ruined if you were actively trying to lol

When I visited the cinema to watch EP7, I expected ,,fate of the Jedi" to be the story they made into a trilogy. These are 9 novels that include a storyline with new elements, such as a demigod (Abeloth) and Sith and Jedi working together. Both the Yuuzhan Vong and Fate of the Jedi could fill a trilogy each. Or maybe you could make one movie about Thrawn, one about the Yuuzhan Vong and one about Abeloth and the lost tribe of the Sith.

@@albumorienteddungeons343 Thrawn is beyond overhyped, and mostly by people who haven't read the EU to know this and but want to appear "in the know" by name-dropping an EU character. Literally the "Gulp Shitto" meme personified. Knight Errant, Jedi Academy, Crystal Star, and of course the XWing Saga + I, Jedi are where it's at. In no particular order, although I find Jacen's story to be the best of the best. The Yuuzan Vong, while not inherently bad, are more-or-less payoff, and thus require the buildup of the books leading into the arc. Again, this could be accomplished by Jacen/Caedus, so they REALLY should have started there. Although, they wouldn't, because the Janca-Caedus thing would never have given them the love interest (and thus "shipper appeal") Disney so desires.

The return of Palpatine could have worked if it was as a Sith Spirit pulling the strings from the shadows. Hell the unexpected death of Snoke wouldn't have mattered that much if it was portrayed as a deliberate manipulation of Kylo as Palpatine's puppet... I honestly think that the major fuck-up was having the director shift and having writers who didn't know or care about the source material at all :(

No, things in "realspace" also exist in hyperspace. It's just that you can't be tracked through hyperspace. Which rule is ignored for plot reasons in _The Last Jedi._ "Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, boy. Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?"

Actually the holdo manoeuvre was possible just extremely luck dependent and therefore pretty much impossible to pull off. Holdo was far enough away from them to be going fast enough to destroy the ships but close enough so she wouldn't jump to hyperspace. She was in the process of jumping as she hit the destroyers. She wasn't quite in hyperspace yet. Still it is kinda stupid as it was a one in a million shot that would have been realistically possible if she was force sensitive. But she was not so it is in fact kinda dumb. But possible.

Stumbled upon your channel with a YT recommendation. I must say; excellent culmination and synopsis of the "Abrams Trilogy" . I too was blown away at how many holes and story arcs were left open. Watching the movies left me thinking there was so much disunity in the trilogy that it is painful to watch. No plot, shabby story, and failed opportunity to expand on a culture rich and diverse universe that IS Star Wars. One the other hand, the prequals are not bad just different than their predecessors. They achieved a good story, even if the story was over the top in many ways. But the prequals were admittedly written for a younger audience than the original and I see nothing wrong in that. I enjoyed them. As my wife would say; the Force Awakens Trilogy was as in her words, "A hot mess!" . Little value did they add to the story in my opinion. Great channel; I've subscribed. Looking forward to seeing your channel and watch what you have.

It does stand to mention, though, that force ghosts become more powerful when in a location that is a Force Nexus. That is why ghost Yoda can manipulate lightning, and Luke can hold the lightsaber because that area of Ahch-To has a light side vergence in the force. The cave on Dagobah is another example of a Force Nexus, except that it's a dark side vergence. That's not a plot hole. That's just Star Wars lore.
