If you own a Dodge or Ram truck boasting the powerful Cummins 6.7L diesel engine, you might have encountered the troublesome grid heater bolt glitch, often recognized as the P2609 fault.
In simple terms:
There's a tiny 10mm bolt tucked away within the grid heater assembly that, with time and mileage, tends to deteriorate. Eventually, this bolt may break free from its position, find its way into the intake system, and ultimately make its home in the #6 cylinder. Once lodged there, it can wreak havoc on crucial engine components like the cylinder head, piston, and cylinder walls, potentially leading to costly repairs.
Addressing this issue can quickly become a hefty financial burden, as repairs often entail significant expenses.

Aftermarket fixing OEM mistakes. Seems like a pita to install, but I am confident it will not be dropping a nut in my intake.

The installation is not high in difficulty, uses common hand tools plus the tools we include, and 90% of it is the same as a grid heater plate install.

Anyone have a copy of the torque specs not covered in the video?

Thanks for your question. The torque specs for the lower busbar are 15 ft-lbs (20.3 Nm) and the lower busbar bolt 7 ft-lbs (9.5 Nm). Looks like it blocks air flow pretty bad has that been tested?

That was my first thought too. The old bus bar was bent vertically to reduce the amount of air it would block. I like the BD solution, but I wish the bar was shaved down in the middle. I think the thickness there is WAY overkill for the current the heater grid pulls. Plus, I would guess that it is going to add a lot of turbulence. I think I'm going to just remove the bolt, and bus-bar from mine altogether. I don't live in Canada where it gets -40, so I don't think I need the heater grid to be functional anyway.

The busbar blocks less than 10% compared to the OE, so negligible amount considering the turbulence caused by the heating elements and the very short span it is in the intake air path. The design was driven by the material selection and current draw of the heater. Not only does the bar need to prevent a melting nut from falling into the intake but it has to allow for full power of the heater.

what happens if the relay sticks .prob burn off the other bolt??

Thanks for your comment. A stuck relay is a serious problem that could lead to an under-hood fire and is partially addressed with safety recall NHTSA 23V-060. While the Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit components could be damaged in such a scenario, it’s important to find the cause of the stuck relay and to inspect and replace all affected components (wiring with melted insulation, damage to the heater, damage to the intake horn that’s sitting about the heater, faulty heater relay).
