AMISH culture can and has shown a nation what sustainability is about, they have been doing this life style since 1800's and to me there the ones whom are intelligent, giving, caring and take care of their own without any gov't' funding. This once great nation called America could learn so much about their way of life. Not pushing their religious beliefs but their way of a peaceful life, no electronics, no negative means to impede on them and not stress of course a much healthier way of life. Many Blessings to you all 💕🌞🌻
@rogerhartline87625 жыл бұрын
They aren't necessarily sustainable. I'm sure most people would be shocked at just how NONsustainable they are. People need to move past the quaint or precious view they have of the Amish. The culture is based on deeply held religious values, not ecological, back to nature or other "feel-good" ideas.

the Amish existed through the extreme persecution of the 17th century before they settled in America. How ironic America is "and liberty and justice for all" just so long as you do what we say. that isn't freedom. In order to live the Amish restricted life, one would have to be born in it. You don't miss what you never had really. I haven't heard of outsiders joining their community, looks like they also conserve their ethnicity. I'd say that their way of life is admirable & reflects more how God intended for us to live on this earth, however, Jesus did not teach us to keep the gospel to ourselves, rather he mingled with all people in order to save them.

My mother was Amish and chose to leave to pursue her dream of being a cosmetologist (which is a symbol of vanity to the Amish, so a big no no). You can join an Amish community but you have to contact the leading Bishop of that county and you have to live with a host family. They want to be sure that you're not going to be baptized into the church, then just leave. You have to show patience and have great determination. You'd have to take steps such as living with a host family, giving up your modern electronics, studying the Bible every day, and studying Pennsylvania Deitsch (it's not Dutch at all. It's a dialect of German that was spoken in certain regions of Switzerland, where the Amish originated), and meeting regularly with the Bishop. It's a long process, but it is possible and can be done. People have done it.

A place packed with bus loads of tourists eating 'all you can eat' lunches at so called 'Amish Kitchens' which don't seem to be run by Amish, before they go 'shopping' up and down the street. The whole place seems to be doing very well taking advantage of people's curiosity about their neighbours. It all seems a bit 'fake' somehow. cheddar cheese and cuckoo clocks have nothing to do with switzerland - sorry. also, the swiss amish did not originate from zurich, but from berne. the amish culture as such has a background in which swiss emigrants played a role amongst others. the food they serve today, the music they play, their customs do not represent switzerland - that's just the way it's all marketed - in fact, the followers of joseph ammann were such a minority in switzerland such a long time ago, they do not really figure in todays consciousness of swiss history. nevertheless, I think they are lovely people and I can understand why they had to leave switzerland; living separate from the world and maintaining such a different set of values is impossible in a country a small as switzerland.

I appreciate the beauty of seeing an Amish tourist attraction. However, I think it’s sad watching the former Amish create such an invasive environment right in the heart of the Amish population’s homeland. That act, as witnessed in this video, nearly disables my misunderstanding and disdain towards shunning; I understand the need to shun after seeing this show, sadly. The former Amish folks accepted the English “world” and now exploit the religious peaceful world of the Amish folks they claim to have left; instead, they now sell it to earn a living.

A bunch of spoiled kids with their moms and daddy giving them everything, always wanting them to smile, where they aren't taught to work, it would be 😭😭😭😭. Oh, this is horrible. Which they never cared about raising a child to a human with character. Where if the economy toppled, where life is really hard, they'd probably turn to being a thief rather than asking for anything. Which if this life is started in younger age, a person grows into.it where it's simply life. Which build the business, then your kids inherit a life so they can raise a family and provide for their children. Which there's nothing wrong with being profitable as long as it is not exploitive or withholds from others. Maybe something I'm not thinking of. Just like medicinal herbs are a market that'd been good to have started a couple decades ago. Where living with others that share a vision is a start. Having sure faith in God would be an excellent start.

The simple life I love also but I have been waiting for the United States Government to take the land that the Amish people live on. The Government took the land from the Indians. Why not the Amish? The land is very fertile plus the government and businesses can use the skills that these people have. They make and sell their products to the Non-Amish and I have seen them in the train station riding on Amtrak. You can see in this video how they profit from the American people but yet and still the American people can not build houses on their land. This country is under populated. Do they pay taxes? Let them live in this country like the Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Hindu and all the other religious groups. I know the automobile industry would love for them to buy cars. Business owners may not suffer that much financially if they were integrated into American society.

I am a Bible believing, Commandment keeping (all ten), follower of my Creator/Savior. I live in the world, but I am not of the world. I don’t participate in the things that the world offers, like; television, movies, worldly music (not even so-called; Christian music, because the people who make that trash accept the worlds awards (Grammys, the music industry is the devils workshop)), sports of any kind (distractions), social media, and you name it, if the world offers it, I reject it. Gluttony is a sin, if you are running a restaurant, and you serve people all-you-can-eat food, those people are going to stuff their stomachs full, and you facilitated them in committing sin. Watching this, I feel like I am seeing an advertisement for these things that are being shown, more to urge me to; ‘come on down, be a glutton, buy our stuff, and bring the wicked world with you.’ No attempt made to call the visitors to salvation in the Messiah at all. It appears that these people have gone from living the simple life, to catering to the wicked people of the world, and getting rich from it. I am no ones judge, but, as a believer, I am called to expose sin. I will pray for all. Light (truth, and the righteous) cannot have fellowship with darkness (error, and the wicked) 2Corinthians 6:14. Not all of the Amish people live this way, many truly live ‘simple’ lives. These people live hectic and chaotic lives to make money off of the visitors. It’s a business, not a way of life. I am sure that one out of 100,000 will see my point, the rest will not. This is biblical, for ‘broad is the way that leads to destruction and many there be who enter in, narrow is the way that leads to life, and few there be who find it’ (Matthew 7:13,14).

So you keep the Sabbath and all the other commandments, and You call Yourself the LIGHT! You are blind as a bat, because You fail to know the glorious Gospel of grace according to the mystery! How do I know, You drowning in self righteousness, saved people have the light, You are still in darkness! God bless You! If You guilty of one, You are guilty of the whole law! walking in grace, is serving our Lord without the Law, but out of Love and so fulfilling the Law!
