I always wondered why Michael Schenker's lead playing always captivated me. Chord tones!!!

Great lesson and this technique is an absolute must if you play in a 2 guitar rock band as I did. I used to play inversions over the basic rock chords of the other guitarist, and it really makes the sound huge

Hi Charles - I agreed, sometimes learning less is more for beginners starting to play guitar. We are overwhelmed with lot of stuffs taught on the internet and your explanation and demo helps us to unlock the mystery of simple guitar chord playing techniques

"You can still hear the changes in their phrases", I always thought that was the goal, being a lone instrumentalist with no vocal training nor vocal ability :) I just trade rhythm and lead between measures. Thanks, great video.

Thank you so much Charlie! You are answering the question that I have but don’t know how to ask. As an early intermediate guitar player, I don’t know how to or what to ask because I just don’t know what I don’t know. Most of these cats in “You Tube land” are protecting this information & they promise but don’t give-up the secrets in their courses either.

My pleasure! Glad it’s helping. At your level it’s about developing some vocabulary (scales, arpeggios, patterns). Then you need to get a good handle on where those things can be used. Spend a lot of time listening to players you admire and analyze what they do over certain chord progressions. Developing phrasing is also going to be very important.

Hi Charlie, This is the lesson I've been waiting for. Can't wait to practice the spread triads and adding the 4th and 5th notes. I feel it will be a game changer for for everything I've been working on regarding soloing. Just learning Let It Be and I'm working on improvising over the chord progression so this lesson couldn't have come at a better time. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to future lessons. Ken

Ok Charlie, you ask for lesson ideas; you want to appeal to as many as you can, right? If you took your knowledge of the fretboard, theory, technique, etc., and broke down, say a Randy Rhoads song (I know you did a Nuno -that's good). You highlight a particular section where there's some defining tricky part that's not so easy for a guy to discover on his own. The name will get you the clicks - Joe Perry (walk this way solo?), EVH, SRV, & so on. There's videos out there doing this, been out there for years and they're still racking up views! This area is one of your strong suits, I think.

How about giving us a demo by putting all that you taught us in a context of a song.
