Hi Ricky. Another good lesson. I have to go over your lessons a few times for it to sink in but I blame that on my age. Now that I am 72 years young and only started learning a short while ago I understand that it will take me longer to learn than a younger person. I only hope I have enough years left to enjoy learning to play. A big thank you Ricky for your lessons and the friendly fun way you teach. Take care my friend and stay safe. Cheers. Chas.

Amazing - this actually works. I’ve watched videos on other sites showing the 5 pentatonic patterns and thought, nope can’t get beyond remembering the first shape. Then I found Ricky’s site, watched his video, printed the pdf and 30mins practice using Ricky's pattern system and I can now repeat each of the five pentatonic boxes from memory. I feel I’ve passed a roadblock in my learning guitar. I'm 'wrapped'. Big thanks Ricky.

W. O. W. Not only does this allow us to go across the strings in both directions (by easily seeing the two patterns, and the duplicate string) and move up the fretboard, the "orange root note" also allows us to go BACK!!! One of the best videos in the history of recorded media.

Bloody brilliant! You're helping thousands of people if the views are anything to go by. I've read a bunch of books, listened to people but nothing and none of them has broken it down like this. It's exactly what you need when learning so kudos to you for sharing this and doing it so simply and brilliantly, nothing like traditional pen and paper to etch things into your brain and remember details. Love the Pacifica guitar! Many thanks from California!

Steve Stine showed how the pattern is always 3 patterns (strings) 3 frets wide and 2 patterns 4 frets wide. But this really puts the icing on the cake for me. Very well done Ricky. The key is knowing where the root notes are and how they relate to the pattern...if you know where your roots are you can take off from there at any given time from anywhere your hand is located to start. Everything else is about tone.....the notes remain the same always...unless it's transitional. Thanks mate...have a pint on me!

I love time travelling Rickys vids. This is great stuff. Been a rhythm player most of my 40 years of playing but around 10 years ago I accidentally started playing bits of lead (not very well) by piecing what sounded ok and what didn't together etc. Now Im actually getting it! lol......My playing was just built around learning chords to play songs without really knowing the connections. It worked but it didn't make any real sense but now it does. Many thanks!

That's neat. I've seen a part of this myself, but I hadn't seen that the root note always is in a certain place of these patterns - middle string, higher fret of the 3-line/3 frets pattern and bottom string of the 2-lines/4-frets pattern. This makes so many things a lot easier. Thank you very much. That and your elevator triangle pattern video has given me a lot fretboard freedom and I love it

I've only recently got more into using the whole ranges of the 5 minor pentatonic positions. Most of my playing just used position 1, plus the upper part of position 2 and the lower part of position 5. The only problem I had when trying to describe some stuff using the major pentatonics, was finding they had different position numbers for the same shape. I ended up just using equal numbers for minor pentatonics and shapes, and then including an index for the shape numbers ref. to the correct major pentatonic position numbers. After that I just kept with the 'shape' numbers, vs position numbers, for both major and minor pentatonics, to avoid confusion.

I have been trying to learn pentatonic boxes for awhile. I am a little lazy or just slow but memorizing where the notes are on the neck has been a hurdle. I memorized all five pentatonic shapes but didnt know they had numbers to uniquely identify each box. I made up my own names that seemed intuitive to me but number 1-5 is better. This video was helpful. I will need to digest this information but the idea of the two reocurring patterns helps. The fact that the root will be in the same relative position seems significant. Ricky you are helping me a lot. Triangle video next! Thanks so much for spelling this stuff out. You the man.

WATCH THIS VIDEO This is truly a new and very helpful way to see things, trimming it down to two boxes and knowing where the root is in each box not only tells me where the root is but where and what the next box is so I know instantly where the next note is in the next box up or down the string. Even though i had all the positions memorized this locks down the relationships up and down the neck. Thanks!
